And I think it's starting to effect my relationship with my fiance. I am told I get cronic depression from my father, and I'm not sure what I can do to over come the depression. I've tried everything, from medicine to exercise. Nothing has seemed to help. I know you're probably thinking "It's just in your head" and I wish it was. But I'm thinking into the future and I don't want to have kids if they have to go through this also.
Please tell me what I can do to "silence" the depression.
And if it helps I'm 17.

As in answer to the "get involved" post.
I'm very involved with work, soccer, track and basketball to really have anytime to think but lately my depression has gotten so bad I've had suisidal thought's, but I'm not going to commit suiside no matter how bad it gets.

Do you know at your age it's the hardest time in your life .Nothing makes sense the future looks dark relationships you could take it or leave it. I remember when i was your age i wanted a boyfriend so bad but then when i got one i couldn't stand for him to kiss me so that's how long my relationships lasted one kiss and gone.I kept saying to myself is this all there is my God I'll never get through it. Please somebody tell me it's more to life then this but they couldn't because this is it. Sorry but you make your own fun you make your own life, one thing i can tell you is it really will get better for you.i know you heard that from someone but it's true just hang in and remember your age right now has everything to do with how you are feeling.

Perhaps some therapy in conjunction with the meds. If you take medication and still have bouts of depression the dosage may need to change or the medication itself. I have taken several different kinds before my Doc found what worked for me...its a trial and error thing my dear, don't lose hope, work with your doctor on fixing the problem. Best of luck to you.

You should go back to your Dr. and try different medications until you find one that works. I've noticed that if I'm busy it keeps me from focusing on my depression so try to get involved.
