A doctrine is a principal or truth that you uphold or build your organization around. By this definition, there would far more than 13 Biblical doctrines.

If however, you meant the doctrines that a particular church subscribes to, based upon scripture, then you could find the home page of that church's denomination, most all of them put their doctrines out for view.

From a Christian perspective, I would say begin with the Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew. From there you can see the principles of Love, Truth, Forgiveness and Faith as defined by Jesus.

Hermeneutics involves a great deal of study, meditation, inquiry, prayer and more study. After 30 years of study I have found that most people who only look at one translation of scripture and consider it the ONLY true translation fail to see the deeper meaning of scripture and eventually this leads to corruption. Perhaps you might consider a class in Greek or Hebrew.

From Merriam online dictionary:

Main Entry: doctrine
Pronunciation: 'däk-tr&n
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Anglo-French & Latin; Anglo-French, from Latin doctrina, from doctor
1 archaic : TEACHING, INSTRUCTION
2 a : something that is taught b : a principle or position or the body of principles in a branch of knowledge or system of belief .

Doctrines come from dogma. Dogma is a definitive truth about faith, like the Trinity. The dogma of the Trinity declares the truth of one God in three divine persons. From this dogma, more developed principles and understandings are formed resulting in doctrine.

When it comes to the bible, we must go to the Church that gave us the bible in order to get the correct doctrines. The reason is because doctrines are those principles that are central to our faith. They teach us what we need to know in regard to our eternal salvation. If we learn incorrect doctrines, we cripple ourselves. It’s like someone telling you that you don’t need to repent and be baptized for forgiveness of your sins. A false doctrine like this can lead so many people astray and could cause them to LOSE their salvation. Remember the bibles warning about false prophets? This is what they’re talking about.

The bible came from the Roman Catholic Church. This is historical fact. Do some reading: www.catholic.com.

God bless.

Anything that Christ said or His Disciples said, are the doctrines of Christ. The doctrine of the Bible are all the doctrines in the Bible.

I think the basic doctrines for a Christian are found in Hebrews, chapter 6, verse 2 ! They are summarized - not elaborated upon.
