The Sistine Chapel is a chapel located inside the Vatican museums which are inside Vatican City but separate from the Basilica of St. Peters.

To get into the Sistine Chapel you have to enter the museums. The best way to do this is to book a reservation, a fair amount in advance, or you risk having to wait in line for several hours to enter.

For more information on the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel and museum and visiting these places, see the Vatican website at: http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/MV_Home.html
Information on making reservations can be found at: http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/z-Info/MV_Info_Servizi_Visite.html

This is a separate chapel and absolutely stunning. The painting on the walls are so detailed and have such definition that the hairs on the back of the neck stand up. You actually feel that there is someone standing there watching you, or that the painting is a statue. There is that much depth and texture to the paintings. This is a "Don't miss" Out of all my world travels, The Sistine Chapel and Angkor Wat are probably my top 2 favorites with The Taj Mahal a close third.

The Basilica of St. Peter is part of the Vatican, as is the Sistine Chapel. It's a separate room. I walked the entire Vatican in one day.

No, It is located in the Vatican museams.
You have to line up to get in (can ba a looooong wait!) on the footpath along the big wall on the left side of St Peters square.
Once inside you go through around 30 beautiful rooms lined with paintings and sculptures and beautifully painted ceilings.
