Altruism is the purest form of compassion anyone can show to another.
I would do it. Maybe God made me do, maybe he didn't.
Does it matter? I'll find out when I go to Heaven,

Statistically, one in three people will aid a person in cardiac distress (Part 3, IV-16,Circulation, Journal of the AHA, Dec 13, 2005). In the Holy Bible, one person, a "Good Sumaritan", aided a sick man on the side of the road, while two, a Levite and a priest, felt it was more important to follow Levital Law than offer a helping hand. The reasons are clear: It is our fallen nature to be selfish, over petty things that impede compassion and heroics. We worry about catching a disease or getting physically hurt in the process of assisting someone in distress. In the true act of heroism, we set aside these trivial thoughts to make way for complete acts of compassion. The feat is difficult to do, because we worry so much about our own safety. Hence, the statistics hold true but those that fulfill the act of the Good Sumaritan are rewarded and protected.

I would try to sacrifice my time and save the mind of whoever has put the stranger in danger *hah! poetry*.
If it was life for life though, I might sacrifice myself for two strangers, or one person close to me.
It is my reasoning that all humans are equal, and my life should have no more importance to me than another's. Of course, in the case of absolute strangers, I would have no idea if the stranger would be likely to appreciate my act. Why would I sacrifice a life I know values others for one that might not?
Hence why I definitely go for two or more.
That way I know the value is greater than the loss.

Yes we do.
Over the stars and over the rifts
Through Farud, Procyon and Subra.
Great Celestial Deity commands and we obey.
Over the stars and far away.
Then fall in greys behind the drum
With colours blazing like the sun.
Along the way to come what may
Over the stars and far away.

As a commanding officer on the Super Star Destroyer the Executor (Darth Vader's star destroyer) i have saved people i don't know when you made the whole fleet go into the asteroid field to look for Han Solo. We barley made it out alive and we lost the fuzzy dice off the command bridge window.

God has nothing to do with my decision. I think its just human nature that when you see someone in trouble.... you run to rescue them. You do everything within your power to save them. I know without a doubt that if it were a child, I wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice myself. But there are a few situations that might make me pause and think. If someone made a stupid decision that put them in a circumstance that they so had control over..... it would be hard for me to justify leaving my children without a mother to help someone that didn't have respect for themselves or those around them. But a poor innocent that could not help the situation and had no means to help themself..... how could I not help at the risk of myself. I would pray that they would have helped me as well.

It really depends. If I am happy and fully satisifed with my life up to this point (I'm not, as of this moment), I would based on what I see. Otherwise, sometimes it's better to flee so that two people don't perish instead of just one. I don't want to die before I've fully bloomed into what I want to be. Once that has happened, this type of self-sacrifice would be honorable.

My belief in God would not influence me a bit. For an adult for what I call stupidity wounds, they are on their own. If they are put in danger accidently then I would do my best to help them. For a kid in danger I would sacrife my life in a heartbeat.

I cannot stand to see anyone suffer in any way,and if I see someone in danger of losing their life, I'd like to think I'd be willing to risk my own to save them further pain or even death. I would not do this because of my belief in God,but because of my inability to stand by and do nothing while my fellow human being is in dire need of assistance.

I am an atheist and I believe that if I had to make a split-second decision to save someone while putting my life in danger I believe I would. I don't think it matters if you believe in God, just if you are a good person.
