My best friend is getting married on Sat. It is to be small and they have indicated no gifts. They have both been married before. I don't feel right not getting something to commemorate the day so would like something subtle but unique. Would really appreciate some ideas that you have used yourself in these circumstances.

My cousin gave us an awesome gift and it was one of my favorites. She gave us two envelopes labeled "A night out" and "A night in".

A night out had a gift card for a romantic Italian restaurant and two movie tickets.

A night in had a pizza hut gift card and a blockbuster gift card.

It was quirky and simply and... gift cards! But it took time, thought and effort and we really appreciated the "date nights" she provided for us.

I love the idea that Lunar Fish Girl mentioned - a night out and a night in. You don't even have to do both. I might actually steal this idea for the next wedding I get invited to.

Although since they did specifically request no gifts the guy who mentioned the bottle of champagne is right on the mark. I would get them a bottle of J Schram from Schramsberg Winery or a bottle of DVX from Mumm Napa Valley. Both are fabulous wines. If you want you could include two really nice flutes.

Something from the heart would be best in these circumstances. Consider writing them a letter telling them what their friendship means to you. It would cost almost nothing, not violate their request for no gifts, and still allow you to offer them something special on their big day.

If you know where they'll be spending their time after the wedding, whether it be on a honeymoon or at home, think about sending a gift basket to their hotel room or home to congratulate them. Maybe a bottle of wine, candy, massage oil, a gift card to a restaurant close to where they'll be...or just send flowers that will make their surroundings more special.

You could get them a nice picture frame with the date of the wedding engraved on it. Give it to your friend before or after the wedding date. This way you are not violating the no gift request. And, whenever they look at the frame, they will think of you!

In a similar circumstance, I gave the couple a bottle of really good Champagne to enjoy. But I do like the day spa idea that was mentioned.

How about a collage picture frame that you can have engraved for them? Or a 20 dollar gift card to a resturant, some flowers might be nice as well.

Get something that is less traditional. So, instead of household items or even cash; get them something that is more geared towards an activity or event.

Get a nice picnic basket w/ a matching blanket. Add a bottle of wine and wine glasses.

They can use it on their honeymoon or for a future romantic afternoon trip.

maybe get them a small card just from you find out if they are requesting money instead of gifts offer to help out for the wedding and assist them at the wedding reception. Just being there for them as a friend can mean more than anything Good Luck
