Before I moved to Thailand I took an add'l year on my Blue Cross and I bought another coverage for x-pat. It was the peace of mind I felt knowing that I could be flown to a hospital in the US if I chose.
It depends on what country you come from, US insurance doesn't count, you have to pay yourself and get your own reimbursement. The hospital costs are a fraction of what they are other places but who wants to pay out of pocket?
I have now found that BUPA covers everything I need covered and is taken by most hospitals.

Travel insurance might actually be your best bet. It is inexpensive and will cover accidents and emergency's. Remember that health care in Thailand is really inexpensive. So cover your bases for emergency's and use local care for your minor stuff. Bumrungrad hospital is located in Sukumvit Bangkok and is a world class hospital. A heart procedure that costs $40,000 in the U.S. costs between $5000 and $9000 at the Big Bum. It's a different world.
All that being said there are lots of international health plans. Try CIGNA International. Their plans are comprehensive and reasonably priced. Good luck and Happy Traveling.

you have no problem finding it here. do a search on the web or look in the Bangkok Post of The Nation newspapers. Cost range pase on age like another other health insurance company. However if your over 60 you may have problems. If your plan to be here a year I assume you know the visa requirements. If you have a job here maybe your company will provide it.

I have BUPA. It costs me $2,100 for the year and I am 61 years old. If you are under 60, the rates are much cheaper also.
