I haven't been there in over 10 years, but it had become truly crime-ridden--particularly at night. How's it now?

Depends where you go. If you stay on the main street or Boardwalk it very well protected. If you go into the hood then walker beware. I am there about once every two weeks. I never have a problem

It still is not the safest place at night. I usally go once or twice a year, and it has improved somewhat but notihng to write home about. They built a mall with some outlets, a Ruths Chris Steakhouse and a few other shops etc.. Of course the Boardwalk is built up and there is a Starbucks, Hooters, RainForest Cafe and other restaurants.

I haven't been there in ages either. I wasn't impressed with it and would never go back. I"m living out in the west now in Phoenix, so Vegas is a hop, skip and not even a jump away. I'm sticking to Vegas. I think Atlantic City is a dump.

If you are in a casino area there is not a problem. If you wander around in bars near low rent housing that is not as good an idea.
Most visitors usually find enough entertainment and restaurants right in their hotel or the ones near it.
If you are looking for the most upbeat location appealing to a younger crowd - try Borgata in the Marina casino area. It has revolutionized the night life and gambling scene.

uhm, there is some crime but you'll be safe as long as you stay like near your hotel area, the casinos or the boardwalk.

its not extremely safe but its not that crime-ridden... its not probably what you've heard, or think... i go there all the time..
