He is a great man of God so don't worry about what others think. God uses many different styles of preachers to reach the many different types of people in this world. Someone who is lonely and hurting may respond more readily to Joel Osteen. Someone who is feeling guilty about sin may respond more readily to John Hagee's fire and brimstone teachings. Others who are not quite sure what to believe may respond to Billy Grahams message of Gods love and forgiveness. God gives us many styles of preaching in order to draw as many types of people to himself. If God Almighty knew "One" person would repent because of Joel Osteens teachings, God would create a whole church ministry just to reach that One lost person.
God Bless You...Peace.

Pastor Osteen is a good man. The problem many have with him is his ideas on faith and prosperity. He also is into a "feel good" theology, portraying God as a "nice guy". But, he does reach people with what he preaches and many do give their lives over to the Lord.
People who need to be reminded about God's love can be ministered to through a message from Joel Osteen. But, if someone is in a stage in their life where they need to hear about repentance, well, Joel ain't the guy who preaches such a message.
I wonder - if he did preach about the importance of a repentant life and the seriousness of getting off our cans and serving God's Kingdom, would Joel attract so many people? How many of is 20,000+ attendees would stick around?
I would not call him a false prophet. I would say that he is a one-sided preacher or a one doctrine teacher. I am more into balance, just the way the scriptures are written.

I read the answer's here because I do donate to Joel Osteen Ministry by mail. I don't watch him all the time but I got his podcast. Joel Osteen is not a false prophet. A person that talks straight from heart has true love in their heart. He does make 100 of thousands (maybe millions) people feel good about themselves and that is NOT a bad thing. One that feels good about themselves and have built up confidence will look at the world and people differently. They will show more compassion toward other's, helping other's from the kindness of their heart. Wherever they go, they will bring happiness because their life is full of joy. You may ask why is that? The answer because someone else instilled love, hope, and faith in their life. So how can any of you say Joel Osteen is a false prophet is beyond me. Is it because you have not love but in place jealousy?

he is one of the few televangelists who i actually believe! i believe that he is indeed a true deliverer of Christs spoken message, and i am not just saying that. I don't think that ALL people who call him a false prophet are full of hate, but i do believe some people who call him a false prophet are passing judgment too quickly and should reevaluate why they are making snap decisions. i can't say he's the greatest minister ever, i wouldn't say any minister is the greatest because if they are delivering God's true message then they are all equal in God's eyes. i don't believe that there is hierarchy in the church (there shouldn't be) in terms of who is the best .

I love Joel Osteen. I think he's a great counselor.
Not a great minister. Why?
Speaking of the Holy Ghost , Jesus says "And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment" John 16:8
Ministers of the gospel of Jesus Christ preach under the annointing of the Holy Ghost. I have never heard any of those 3 words exit Joel's mouth.
Also Joel doesn't reprove or rebuke at all because after all, wouldn't want to hurt anyone feelings, right?
There is a place in the church for the things he teaches but not at the expense of the law (which convicts of sin) and the gospel (which saves us from sin).
When he becomes more balanced, he will lose members because they have been conditioned to be unbalanced as he is. And they will reject everything contrary to what he previously taught.
You can have Diet No Carb Gospel if you want, but I want to be fed what's necessary-the Bread of Life! Amen.

I don't see him as a true minister. He does not counsel and he does not minister to the seriously ill. He does prepare two sermons a week. One thing his father was very opposed to was asking money from the parishoners on TV ( he didn't want to look like another Jim Baker), and he made Joel promise he would never do that on TV. And Joel doesn't. But when they cut to commercial. wife Victoria is right there, working the audience, reminding everyone to tithe 10% of what they make a year. And where does this go? It goes to Africa, to the missionaries his father started. And that's it.
Please do not accuse me of being full of hate and not being a true Christian simply because I do not believe Olsteen is a true minister. You are no person to judge another like that, and you owe everyone who reads your post an apology for making such an asinine statement.

he preaches feel good religion and very rarely tackles the real issues. He's a motivational speaker, purveyor of Christianity-Lite. Believe me, I have tried to watch him and he never talks about sin and repentance and unpleasant stuff like that. I've said it before...he appeals to the lowest common denominator. He's a people pleaser. Only God knows his heart, but what I've heard come from his pulpit sounds ominously like Word-Faith that so many charlatans spread. It's a false gospel. Open your eyes and compare what Osteen says against Scripture.

Here's a link to a sermon preached over in Ireland when Joel came by for a visit that should answer your questions about why people say what they say about him.
