Ooo - UTI! Take to vet immediately. Your cat is in pain and trying to tell you. The cat will continue to leave marks on your favorite things until this is resolved.

Your cat could have crystals built up in the urinary track, does the cat seem to be in pain when it pees? The vet can give you a urine sample kit, which is a sample cup and plastic pellet litter that doesn't absorb urine. Put the pellets (I get two kits since one isn't enough to fill a small pan) in a small, clean pan, lock kitty in the bathroom with water and pan. Keep checking, when kitty pees pour the urine into the sample cup and get it to the vet as soon as possible. They can do a urine analysis without having to take in the cat for an office call that way, and it's less expensive. Good luck!

This could be a vet emergency, the crystals in the urine (like our kidney stones) are blocking the urethra and not letting urine pass.

If this completely blocks the cat then the lining of the bladder starts breaking down, causing blood to be mixed with the urine. In bad cases (most do turn bad very quickly) blood poisoning starts soon as the kidneys stop functioning from this.

If your cat can't get anything out after three trips to the box, or if you see blood in the few drops he can do, OR if he's sitting hunched with back fur spiky--get the carrier and get him in to the emergency clinic. Cats can die from this in less than 12 hours. The longer you wait while the bladder is blocked, the more damage is being done to the kidney function.

It won't fix itself, it's very painful for the cat, and you could loose your pet in less than 24 hours from this.

Straining and minimal urination at the litter box is something that calls for a vet visit, as it could indicate a blockage or an infection. Depending on whether your cat is a male or a female, this could be seriously life threatening. A vet visit is a necessity.

If it is a male then it could be crystals forming and blocking his urinary tract. Serious condition and the cat can die. Male cats have a very small penis and can not pass them like a female can. Needs to be checked by a vet.

Might hurt him to pee. Sounds like a urinary tract infection. Maybe even stones.... Best take 'em to the vet and nip the problem in the bud. Antibiotics might be best.

Good luck!

I would take it to the vet. It sounds like it's got some sort of urinary problem.
