It depends on what theory you believe in.

To some the earth is only about 6,000 years old because that is the length of time if you add up all the years in the Bible and make a chronology.

However, the earth can also be billions of years old according to the gap theory. In the gap theory there is a gap between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 of an indefinite length of time. The story of Genesis after verse one is essentially a remaking of the Earth and the Heavens most likely after the end of Satan's rebellion. Later verses in Job and John follow this idea.

Personally I subscribe to the gap theory.

The Bible doesn't come out and say how old the earth is. People have tried to add up genealogies and come up with a figure of around 6,000 years but they have to make assumptions about how to interpret Genesis chapter one and other assumptions to come up with that figure. Basically the Bible doesn't say when God created the earth, it only teaches that He did and that one day we will have to give an account to our Creator for what we did during our lives on his planet and that if we don't come clothed in the righteousness of Christ we are doomed to condemnation.

No age or such data is recorded regarding earth.

We don't know the time span between Genesis 1:1 and verse two.

The earth could easily be billions of years old.

You have to keep in mind, the six creative days, does not include Genesis 1:1

There is evidence the Bible to suggest the creative days were 7,000 yrs. in length each. It does not say anything about how long the time was between one day ending and another beginning. Millions of years would not be out of line for simply cooling.

It depends on in the creation account you interpret the hebrew word "yom" translated as "day" to mean a literal 24 hour day or whether you view the word to mean "era" or "age" in the say way we say "in the day of the dinosaurs."

There is strong evidence that the creation account refers to eras and not literal 24 hour days. It also doesn't make much sense that God would create a world that essentiall lies to us about its age. So, I think it's likely that according to scientific and Biblical evidence the earth is 4-5 billion years old.
