I think for the most part, it seems to cultivate division - even within the bounds of the religion itself. Look at all the Christian denominations fighting one another about who are "real" Christians and who are not. It shouldn't be that way, but that is how it seems to be, to me.

Depends on the religion. False Christian religion, for example, promotes divisions among the individual churches. True Christians however, promotes unity among each other all over the earth. Wherever one goes in the world, they would teach the same things even as 1Corinthians 1:10 says "speak in agreement". This would also mean not participating in the world's wars as this would mean people of the same faiths on both sides.

Religion is the only factor of a new culture. Not all the superstitions, not all the beliefs, the dogmas, the churches, the mosques, the temples, none of them is religion; that is vast propaganda which has conditioned the human mind. Religion implies gathering together all your energy to understand something beyond the limitations of thought; gathering together all your energy to find out what is true; to find out for yourself, not according to somebody else, what it means to have enlightenment, what it means to have a quality of mind that is not caught in time.

Religion doesn't cultivate anything. People can choose to use it for one purpose, or the other.

The different denominations within religion is what divides us. If we could just unite under Jesus Christ instead of thinking about RELIGION. That's not where it's at. It's knowing Jesus Christ personally as our Savior. That will unite us.
