I got a tattoo on Sunday, and I'm planning on going swimming in a pool with a few of my friends tomorrow. Is this safe, or should i bandage it up with saran wrap?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

Dont cover it, especially dont wrap it with saran wrap just to swim, what will end up happening is the chemicals and bacteria in that pool will get into your tattoo, which is an open wound, and if it is covered with saran wrap, those chemicals and bacteria will stay in your tattoo, and infect it and you. So do not wrap it, as a matter a fact I hope that you arent wrapping it with anything at all at this point, the only wrapping that should have been done was during the first day and thats it.

Your tattoo needs to breath, but also needs to stay clean and not go dry or be too moisturized. Complicating I know, but as long as you keep it moisturized, you'll know when you need to because you'll feel like you have glue on your skin, thats when you need to rub lotion with vitamin E on it right away. Stay away from anything that is scented, including soap and perfume, keep all those scented things off your tattoo. Clean it about every 3 hours or so with a nonscented anti bacterial soap, then pat it dry with a soft towel, never rub it dry.

Sorry I went into a lot of detail for nursing a tattoo, there is more, but you get the point. Dont cover it during the healing stage, and dont swim at all. If the tattoo is going to be out in the sun, then you need to be in the shade, sorry no tanning allowed, unless you want your fresh tattoo to turn into crap. But swimming or staying in any water for too long will hurt your tattoo.

Tattoos And Swimming

NO. Do not swim for at least 2 weeks, or until your tattoo is smooth and healed. There are 3 evil S's of tattooing. Swimming. None for two weeks. Sun. None for 2 weeks, fake or real. That will bleach the hell out of your tattoo. Not fade it. Fry it. Scratching. Be brave, don't do it. And no Saran wrap. Ever. Don't wrap your tattoo! I cannot tell you how many idiots come into the shop after wrapping their tattoo and show us some crappy cross with no color because they wrapped it. Please, don't wrap it and dont' swim. It will honestly ruin it.

My tattoo artist recommends waiting at least a month before swimming. It will cause it to fade. Where is it? Is it somewhere you can avoid submerging in water for long periods of time? You could always just wade in the shallow end.

i would wait at least a week beofre you go swimming in a chlorinated swimming pool, even if the tattoo is wrapped up the chemicals could still come into contact with the still relatively fresh ink.

You should never wrap a tattoo in plastic. Your artist should have told you the length of time to keep it out of the bath, hottub, and swimming pool....give 'em a call.

I have 2 tattoos (ankle & wrist). I was advised not to soak my tattoo in water for at least a month. I would call your artist.

I was always told to avoid this as there are multiple risks in swimming with fresh ink.

Probably be wise to cover up as the chemicals and chlorine won't be good for the fresh ink just two days old.

you can see the answers above, here is common sense, you have an open wound on your body that is secreting fluid from your body if I were the pools owner I would not allow you to partake of MY pool
