I was just wondering, In Florida, if a 17 year old male, who has had a license for less than a year, drives his parents car without being insured himself and his parents know and are ok with it. What are the chances that cops will pull you over just to make sure everything is legit, even though you didn't do anything wrong (I heard this happens with teens). And what are the consequences if you did get caught?

Don't do it. When i was 17, I was driving my parent car, it had a unexpired insurance card, so i thought it was legit, I got pulled over, but not for doing anything wrong, by a state trooper, i guess I looked young. When he checked my insurance, it turns out my parents hadn't paid it, and did not tell me. I had to file an SR22 for 3 years, and this insurance is ridiculously expensive. So I thought, well i just won't drive for 3 years, because i can not afford 350 a month for insurance, until it expires. Well that does not work either because you actually have to "pay" for the SR22 insurance for 3 years, and it will not expire until you have paid the full 3 years. An SR22 is actually insuring yourself as a driver, and a lot of insurance companies will not cover you if you have to file an SR22.
Its a crappy situation, I wouldn't recommend it!

Let's see... You could lose your driver's license. You could be arrested. Since you are under 18, your parents could be arrested for letting you drive the car without insurance. You could get a very large fine. The absolute best thing that could happen to you would that you would get away with ONLY a ticket.

If you drive a car, you must have insurance. You do not have to get your own. You can be added as a driver to someone else's policy (usually your parents or legal guardians), but you MUST have insurance to legally drive a car.

AH, the wonderful State of Florida. Get stopped by a State Trooper and you will get a ticket, car impounded, parents get ticketed for allowing an uninsured driver to operate their vehicle and you will probably lose your licence until you are 21. They don't play down there.

Big fine, big tickets, big trouble. You could loose your license, or your car. You could have to file SR22 - which is expensive, but not as expensive as it used to be.

All in all, it's cheaper to have your car added to your parent's policy with you as a driver.

Good Luck~!

as long as you have license and registration and the car is insured, you should be ok.
