YES, it might have (too early to say for sure)
The series shocked the heck out of ABC when it frankly approached the topic of sex.

In an attempt to get away from that topic it has decided to go darker and to work on Kyle's "super powers." Before the series was one of teenage discovery and you can't cover that topic without having sex appear somewhere.

ABC showed the show (for a time) on its Family Channel so the sex issue was a big problem and those episodes didn't make it there. They almost canceled the series exiling to strange times, my TiVo even caught a new episode at 1:00 am.

Why ABC is giving Kyle XY a second chance isn't very clear, unless they don't have anything that is better. Personally I like the show and was glad that it was NOT just another teen series. If it turns into one then I will probably stop watching it. I am a science fiction fan so the idea of who Kyle was attracted me. The issues he explored were similar to those explored by the Star Trek character Data, the android. Data was discovering and trying to become more human.

When you look at some issue from outside of that issue you can make new statements and show new things. When you approach it in the same old way then you end up with the same old program and the public gets tired of that. Kyle's fresh attitude and new viewpoint are what makes the series interesting. If they push the "super power" aspect of it then they pull Kyle away from being a normal boy and so kill the major premise of the show.

YES!!! I think it's becoming like Smallville, which eventually got way too boring. Needs to go back to like season 1.
