It might be that the DVD player doesn't like the DVD. Try playing it on other DVD players, if the same thing happens then its the DVD.

Check the DVD for scratches and/or dust. Sometimes little things like that affect the laser that picks up the DVD. Since a scratch or dust is in the way, the laser cant read it.

Also try cleaning out the laser lens that reads the DVDs. Most of the time dust is on the lens so it has a hard time reading the DVD. Try one of those laser cleaning disks, or opening the DVD player and clean the lens yourself with a little bit of rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. (Only do this if your sure you can really do it )

maybe the player doesn't like the dvd
it may be the wrong kind (incompatible DVD) it may be a file format it can't read, it may be a damaged DVD.

then again it might be the DVD player.

this isn't too difficult to figure out even for a lay person.
basic troubleshooting.

get a dvd from blockbusters or wherever. if it doesn't play then odds are the player. if it plays then something is with the dvd

try it in your computer. if it plays the compatibility issue if it doesn't play then dvd problem

I had this same problem twice with my DVD player......the problem seemed to be that there was too much humidity in my house. So I put a fan next to my player and it cleared it up.....If that's not your case....you might check to see if there is a scratch on your DVD disc........Or, you could look up the brand name online and check the trouble shooting tips. Or maybe even call the compnay , if they have a number
