The lens is the SIGMA 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Lens for SIGMA SA-7N.
anybody know and will it fit a Canon Rebel XT?

The SA-7N is a good film camera but it's a proprietary lense mount. The lens will only work on the Sigma SA-7 or SA-9 camera. See the thread here:

It sounds like it is specific for the Sigma line of cameras. Since Sigma makes Canon-specific lenses, I would speculate that the mounts are different from each other.

The Sigma SA 7n is a DSLR that has a unique lens mount and it's lenses won't fit any other brand of camera.

mechanical mount
connection to camera metering system

sometimes mechanical mounts are adaptable especially with non-camera lens manufacturer, sometimes you have to have a specific lens.

a quick look seems to say u can put different mounts on it.
u need to verify that by looking up the exact model number
