They are probably considered married by common law. It seems they are happy with the way things are. If they are still together after 19 years then they have stayed together longer than many married couples. I think they are fine just the way they are.

I have seen couples be together for years then decide to get married and the relationship falls apart. Something about a marriage license can sometimes ruin a great relationship.

There are many benefits to be considered for making the relationship a legal marriage. They should check into these before deciding to stay single or get married. From a legal standpoint many things are affected when children are involved and could cause problems over inheritance, etc., if the union is not a recognized one legally.

If they've stayed together for 19 years, then they are already doing better than most married couples. In truth, I'd say they are married but just don't have, or apparently need, that bit of legal paper to prove it. If it ain't broke, why "fix" it?

In some states they would probably already be common law. I dont know where you live, but if this works for them and they have been together this long, then they are doing it right. Unless there are tax or legal reasons that they would need to marry, then I say why mess with success!

It is a personal choice. I think after 19 years they would have gotten married if they wanted to. But you know, I know of a lot of people who do not feel that a piece of paper is going to make a difference. Look at Goldie Hawn, she never married and they said they never would and they seem o.k.

Many many many men and women who get married after years of living together are soon divorced. Strange but true.

it depends on them --- although i know of a couple that got married after a long time living together and broke up soon after --- if they are happy why worry about getting married??? --- their perception of their relationship may change and they find that this piece of paper can change their lives for the worse --- best wishes to them
