It was preloaded on desktop. Now I'm getting a reques to activate it on my laptop. If I activate it one one computer then the other will be rendered useless when activation is required right?
How do I get back to xp on laptop?

Not if you installed it on the desktop and activated it, if you didnt activate it or install it atleast, you should be able to just install and activate on your Laptop.

If you have the exact same hardware on the laptop thats in the desktop. The CD provides drivers and other things that make your hardware work. If you hardware is different, then it won't install correctly. And if you desktop is a dell and the laptop isn't... don't even try.

I think it depends on a couple of things. One, the speed of your processor, and two the size of your laptop's hard drive. I got a gateway with Windows 98SE on it, and if I wanted XP it would max out the C: drive.

if your laptop has the memory available, and you have the code , it should work. I've heard vista ain't all that and takes up a ton of memory.

I have put xp in a couple of pcs.So as long as its your name and your computer they will let it install.Make sure you use the product code you have with it.
