a friend of mine was over bbq-ing yesterday and exclaimed that she wanted to eat so much pork that she would go crazy. i thought this to be a delightful way to go insane but fear that she might have been pulling my leg. she had said that it had to do with it being so similar to human meat, and if it really is then why would human meat make you go crazy?

Pork will not make you fat unless you eat the whole darn animal. Fats & proteins are not fattening only carbohydrates are fattening.

She may have been refering to mad cow disese. Which has similar charistics to a disease of the Feore people of Papua New Guinea. The disease kuru was linked to cannibalism. These two diseases have a link to another disease Creutzfeldt-Jacob (CJD). All are fatal with no cure. The diseases were elussive to scientists because it is not caused by a living-thing.
The link is a protein like moeity called a prion. Ground breaking Noble Prize work conducted at the University of California San Francisco revealed the culprit.

The disease may not show symptoms for years (15-25 or longer) but it is six short months from the first indications till death.

It could be she was talking about the link of the three dieases kuru, CJD, and scrapie or transmissible mink encephalopathy (mad cow) and their connection to cannibalism that she was refering to.

Enjoy the pork. LOL

I think she was just yanking your chain, but people can develop trichonosis from eating undercooked meat of infected animals. Pork products are implicated more often than other meats.

The symptoms usually start with abdominal pain and diarrhea followed by fever, muscle soreness, pain and swelling around the eyes. Thirst, profuse sweating, chills, weakness and tiredness may develop. Chest pain may be experienced since the parasite may become imbedded in the diaphragm (the thin muscle separating the lungs from abdominal organs).

A drug called mebendazole is used in treatment. Failure to treat could be fatal. The best prevention is to make sure that pork and wild game meat products are properly cooked.

That is the biggest load of rubbish i have ever heard. Thats like saying eating too many eggs will turn you into a chicken! Pork is a red meat and the only thing that will come from eating too much of it is high blood pressure and an extra few inches on your waist

Most people can eat a lot of pork and not go crazy.
Maybe your friend has been avoiding pork (dieting?), but she she let loose and went hog wild eating the bbq pork.

Maybe your friend is crazy.

In regards to eating human meat, it's taboo. Only in desperate situations have people cannibalized other people. Because it's such a stigma against cannibalization that people go crazy from guilt.

She was just yankin your chain. Not enough pork will make you go crazy. Example, Look at the Muslim extremists blowing them selves up so they can have 70 virgins in heaven. Have you ever heard anything crazier than that?

i don't think that eating a lot of pork will make you go crazy. I think that eating human flesh is thought to make people go crazy because canibals eat it raw and they get parisites that eat away at their brains and stuff.

I bet the pigs put her up to that. There is no reason to fear the "other white" meat. Eat away.
