Hi - unfortunately there is no real way of hiding the redness other than to wear clothes that cover those parts that are burnt.
The good news is that these superficial burns are usually gone within 7-10 days ...
So, as your Mum has advised keep applying a good moisturizer (aloe vera products are good) and continue to cool the burn until you can't feel any heat in the skin any more .. just jump in a swimming pool, dip arms/legs in bath BUT do not use ice or ice cold water as this will make the burn worse..
On a more long term note - prolonged sun bathing can lead to skin cancer and also generally damages skin so you end you looking old and haggard well before your time. Be Sun Smart!!

Ok i know that this is going to sound really wierd but trust me this works!!! I go tanning a lot and i get burned more then i would like to so what i do is a take a really hot bath! Yes a HOT bath. I dont know how it helps but it does. It doesnt make you peel, it takes away the pain, and it doesnt leave you red. The first couple of min. is going to be a little painful but then the pain goes away. I know that this will work.....good luck.

Aloe vera! Find someone you know who has an aloe plant and use it fresh. Rub the slimy stuff one your burned parts and it takes the ouch factor out. Your mom is right so keep using that lotion. I would also suggest not laying out in the sun and use a spray on or rub on tanner. Get a good friend to help you so you don't miss any parts.

Go to the drugstore and get some body lotions that contain aloe ,chamomile or oatmeal .(look at the lables and ingredients list...) Leave it in the 'fridge, and after a hot day, slather on all over. It will cool you down and calm the burnt skin. You don't have to put it in the 'frige, but it will feel nice and cold if you do that.

You can't make the red go away but you can sooth it with aloe lotion or by soaking a wash cloth in whole milk and resting it on your body. To prevent peeling use Cocoa butter lotion http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=84183&catid=10401which should help a lot.

Get some aloe from the drug store and slather it on your burned areas. If it feels better, then put some ice on it or take a cold bath [or shower]. The lotion is a good idea to put on after the aloe.

There is a gel made for sunburns, get some of that and put it in the fridge, it will really help. Also, vinegar will take the burn out.
