How can I do it? I get so confused when they tell me to measure from this line to that line because I don't know where it even starts?! And can you recommend some hair styles for that shape?

That will help you on what face shape you have (try the soap on the mirror trick IT WORKS!)

Square face shape: Your hair should not be shorter than chin length. A loosely layered cut works well in bringing the hair toward the face, emphasizing cheek bones while de-emphasizing and softening the jawline.

Round face shape: A cut that is not too severe or blunt because it would make the face appear rounder and bigger. Uneven ends will soften the look while long bangs help diminish the roundness of the face.

Oval Shaped face: is considered a near-perfect shape and means you can choose practically any hair style.

Long or 'oblong' Shape Face: For straight hair, you can create more width with bangs. Long, side-swept bangs are very modern. Chin-length bobs and cuts are also ideal for you because they create the illusion of width. Curls and waves also add width, but avoid short layers that add volume on top. Stay away from extremely long or short cuts. These elongate your face. If you must have long hair past your shoulders, make sure to cut in a few long layers, especially around the face. You might also consider a v-shaped style, where the length is mainly in the back, while the sides and front of your hair seem shorter.

Heart Shape Face: Your pointy chin tends to be the focal point of your face. Draw attention to your eyes and cheekbones instead with sideswept bangs (these act almost like arrows to your eyes or cheeks), brow-grazing fringe, a strong part and hair that falls at or below your jawline. Have short hair? Keep top layers soft and long. Long hair? Go for wavy layers that graze your cheekbones.

Hope this will help!

Horizontal they want you to measure for the top point of your cheekbone across to the other cheekbone.

They also want you to measure your jaw line. That is the widest point to the widest point.

For the vertical measurement, its pretty much the middle of your face. From where you hairline is down to the bottom of your chin.

Go into a mirror and use soap or something that will come off and trace your face shape. Go to http://www.visual-makeover.com/face.htm to find the "do's and dont's" for different face shapes
