I know two types of people who don't like LA/LA County. First, the people who have moved there with expectations. Second, people looking to blame a place and its inhabitants for their own problems or lack of success.

If someone doesn't like a place there is nothing stopping that person from moving on. I was born and raised in the Valley (some call it worse than actual LA) and went to school in Los Angeles. Sure the traffic on the 405 stinks, there is smog and housing is outrageous in some areas, but that's LA. I hear people complain about the "fake people" and the "backstabbers". But look at the amount of colleges and universities in the area, the theaters, the beaches, the attractions, the diversity. The good comes with the bad.

My two cents are: If you hate something-change it or change yourself.

It's a very big city with little streets....

TRAFFIC is the BlTCHlEST thing in L.A! It can so bad, and you know everyone hates being stuck in traffic!

but other than that, LA is a pretty good place to live in, a lot of entertainments here and there! though yes, some people are just very rude and there are gangs, but i'd still say that i like living in the LA area...

I trust you're talking about Los Angeles, and not Louisiana, right? If so, then here's my answer...

I went to grad school at UCSB. Having driven through LA, I always told myself that I would look at LA for a job *only* as a drop-dead last resort. What I disliked about the area was the following:

1) traffic congestion (I hit the 405/101 interchange well after midnight one evening, and it was still a disaster... and there was no car accident that I could ever see!)
2) population density
3) smog (as a contact lens wearer, my eyes always burn when I go to LA)

Those were my top three complaints.

The good things about living in L.A. defintely outweight the bad, but I'll give you the bad side only. I am a young adult.

- The traffic is obviously the bad thing about L.A. It takes me 1-2 hours to travel 19 miles on the 110 freeway going through the downtown area.

- L.A. is the gang capital of the U.S. There are alot of suburbs/neighborhoods which are heavily dominated by gangs, so you have to watch what you wear, what you say, how you look at people, and where you go if you go near these areas.

- It is getting more and more crowded, adding to the traffic

- The cost of living is high here, my house can sell for $700,000 and it's in a gang neighborhood.

- It hasn't rained in a LONG time, we are having a drought.

Well, I don't apply to this question, but maybe it has something to do with the ridiculous real estate market, the crazy traffic, the detrimental pollution, or the stereotypical "plastic" people. I don't know. I think the pros of living in Los Angeles outweigh the cons.

There is ALWAYS traffic on some freeway anytime of the day. It's too congested and the pollution is really bad. The city is dirty and there are way too many immigrants from Mexico. You have to drive to get from point A to Point B and it's really hot in the summer. The houses are expensive too. A lot of people are image conscious and superficial.

Terrible traffic.
Horrible housing prices.
Difficult to get a job if you're not young and good looking.
CRAZY DRIVERS! Geez, everyday someone cuts me off or I see them cutting someone else off.
Gang crime.
Poor leadership and terrible planning at City Hall.
Political corruption.
Lots of people are out to rip people off here in various professions.

Other than that it's just your normal, average big city but without the snow.

the only reason I can think of are jerks who cant drive. Just watch the road and you'll be amazed to see how many stupid people there are out there. No common sense whatsoever. It's quite fascinating. But then again, that could also describe any other city in the U.S.
But I still love L.A.!! I love you my city of angels!!
