Like under martial law? I had a very wise person tell me this, and he says, "You don't put out the forest fire, you prevent it......" What did he mean? What does this mean to the average US citizen who doesn't have any political ties?

I am writing this from my own experiences also. Just today my little brother was riding his bike across the street and a cop pulled him over saying that he pulled out in front of a car. My brother claims the car was real far away and he is not stupid. The cop said he wouldn't arrest him but called our mother at work and issued him a warning. Also my other brother said yesterday that he was hanging out with his friends and the cops said he flipped them off when my brother said he didn't. He said noone flipped them off that they were just making this up. I don't know whats going on out there but the cops are everywhere around here.

Yes, it's becoming a police state, people are being arrested and jailed on the most contrived and flimsy evidence, or testimony by some criminal seeking a lighter sentence through turning informant , or some cop thinks they 'may' commit a crime, rather than wait until the parties actually commit an offense.

This is more common at the federal level at present, but is also found at the state and local level.

For the person with no political ties, simply associating with a person who is a criminal or is a suspected criminal may result in your being approached by an agent or cop who will either entrap you as a criminal or try to make you an informant.

Choose your friends carefully.

There are some alarming indications of it. Illegal wiretaps and data mining, indefinate detention of pretty much anyone our Fearless Leader wants to detain, and the more mundane racial profiling that's gone on for decades. What your friend means is that by the time it's obvious to enough people that there's a problem it's usually too late to get it under control.

A police state is one in which government agents (like police) are armed and the Citizens are disarmed. That places absolute power in the hands of Government, a notion contrary to our nation's principle that The People are sovereign and are to always be armed (with combat weapons) to enforce their sovereignty.

Note that Leftists work hard to turn this into a police state by disarming the public.

it's the exact opposite here(elpaso). there is not enough police to manage 2 million people and more than likely they are corrupt - as is everything here. no one cares - they just exist from day to day - sorry you guys are being harassed - at least you stick up for yourself good luck

If people would quit being stupid - it wouldn't.

But you have to protect people from themselves (like the warning on a hair blow dryer not to use while sleeping)
