I was thinking about becoming a JAG Officer and was just curious if this was possible(this really is just out of curiosity)...

If I went into the NROTC as a Marine Option or Army ROTC on a scholarship to get my college paid for by the military, then requested to go to Law School right after college and also have the military pay for all of my Law School, then come out with a 7 or 8 year commitment,(I think thats right... 4 years commitment for ROTC and a 3 or 4 year commitment for Law School...right?) do you think it is possible to make Major in 7 or 8 years as a JAG Officer(and then leave for civilian practice) in the Marine Corps or Army?

Why yes Bill P, I do know what a JAG does, but you're not answering my question.

Are you trying to say the Navy won't pay for my Law School because they don't need lawyers right now?

Well if the Navy Law(and by Navy I assume that goes for the Marine Corps. too) is so hard to get into, what about the Army JAG Program, can I get my Law School paid for easily by them?

you won't get Law school paid for by the Navy, that's for sure. it is one of the most competitive programs out there.. they take something like 5 a year. Had a friend who was a Naval Officer who tried five years running to get picked up and was turned down every time. Major is O4. Coming straight in as an O1 you can expect to make O4 around the ten year mark, not much sooner.

Do you even know what a Navy JAG officer really does?

Basically he is there to assist military men in wills, powers of attorney, and other personal legal matters and about the most exciting thing that he will have to do is to prepare cases for Article 32 hearings and courts martial.

The Navy will only assist if if there is a shortage in what they are looking for and there is no shortage of attorneys.
