I've been in this section for a few weeks now and something has been at the back of my mind, waiting for an answer, so I'd appreciate your personal input.

If you are an atheist, you do not believe in God, correct? This is in contrast to agnostics, who aren't sure. So if you are an atheist and do not believe in God, why would you spend any time at all at YA answering/asking questions about God? Or perhaps a better way of asking is, why do you have any interest in these Qs&As at all?

I don't mean to be rude or sound silly, but I was thinking about this last night, and I thought, if I didn't believe in something, for example, Mormonism, then I wouldn't have the first bit of interest in going to a Mormon blogsite and chatting with them. Unless of course, I was trying to learn as much as I could about Mormons in order to convert one....

Just wondering if you could give me some insight. Thanks!

NOTE TO ALL SO FAR: Okay, I see your points, I suppose....but if you are answering questions in physics, then you have some interest in physics, yes? And if you are asking questions about cooking you may not be a chef, but you must have some interest in cooking. Maybe the question should be, what exactly is your interest in this section? What do you hope to learn/see/find here that brings you in. And thanks, Chippy for the clarification on agnostic.

I am a full gospel Christian and I am on this one girl. I think they know down deep there is a God, because God says He gave us all a measure of faith. BUt, many fear God in rebellion, but on some level they just know. SO they come on here to make us look bad, to proove us wrong, to feel good about their choices, but down deep they are really searching for something to fill the void that is empty. IF they keep coming on here long enough, they may just find what they are looking for. We must not hate them, but love them and pray for them, yet do not allow them to be disrespectful of us when they disagree. Noone has a right to be vile to anyone else. Both sides have a right to their opinion, and if they are rude, lets report them. just the point. Great thought question....
You are welcome.

Numerous reasons, which include explaining what I do and don't believe and why, (not all atheists are of the apathetic type.) I am interested in theological questions that might make others think about why they believe whatever it is that they believe. I come to witness the unfathomable and abysmal ignorance displayed by many people, primarily among the believers. It's damned entertaining! It's astonishing how man can be both the most intelligent and stupid creature on the Earth at the same time. It's an education worth its time to witness it firsthand. Basically, I'm a religious person like all you good folks, just without the god.

I almost only answer questions that religious people specifically ask to atheists.
I could turn it in a daytime job if it would pay me a living. A daytime job? actually 24/7. And I wouldn't have a break.
Luckily for those christians, I'm not the only atheist over here.

Note: Again, I'm here because people specifically ask questions to atheists, I'm an atheist, so when I fee like answering, I answer. I know it's useless, because religious people asking questions to atheists don't really want to know the answer atheists will give them, as their bible already has an answer, if not on the lines, then in between, but still sometimes I feel the urge to get some "believers" (back) in touch with reality.

I consider the belief in god to be a delusion. I wouldn't have the slightest interest in visiting these sites if all those who believed in god lived in isolation from the rest of the world. If that was the case, their beliefs or delusions would have no impact on me. But that's not the case.

Because we all live in the same society with equal rights, these delusions affect everyone else directly because they play a part in determining who gets elected into office, and who gets into positions of power, and which laws get passed and these delusions play a part in determining whether or not to go to war. In other words, these delusions directly impact my life because they play a part in shaping the world in which I live. That's why I take an interest.

I've spent most of my life remaining silent about it, in respect for those who do believe, and in the interest keeping the peace. But now I'm beginning to realize that if I believe an idea is wrong and possibly even dangerous, then I have a moral obligation to myself and to others to speak out against it.

How many questions here, including yours, were addressed to atheists?

Second, atheism is a position relative to religion. Sometimes you learn by contrast. Frankly, some of the best arguments for atheism come from the "devout" participants babbling in favor of the god of their choice.

Just because we don't believe or follow the faith, does not mean we're not interested in it's teachings, does not mean we're not interested in it's history. You may not believe in racism, but are you bot intrigued as to why people think that way? Do you not think to yourself, "Why?" or wonder how it even started?

Just because we don't believe something, doesn't mean we're completely turned away from it and don't want to learn from it. You don't need to want to convert to learn about something. Knowledge and wisdom are useful, no matter what the area.

Because it's more fun than the other sections. I don't actually expect to convert anybody, nor do I expect to learn anything (though it's nice when I do). I am simply here because I enjoy reading the things that are posted here, and posting some things myself.

Question has been asked 30 some hundred thousand times (no exaggeration). But to go over it again this forum isn't for one religion or even religions only. There are many sides to the subject, myths that for sure need clearing up and it couldn't hurt to see all sides interact together.
