when we got a new kitten, our older cat used to hiss at growl at the kitten alot. We used to separate them and only allow them to go near each other when we were there. Every time the cat hissed, we used to clap our hands or say "no" quite loudly to make it obvious that it was wrong. After a while it should calm down, just keep and eye on it. If they are both male its likely the older cat is trying to establish his role as the alpha male. Try this site... it gives really good advice

Hope this helps!

perhaps with time. should introduce the two in phases. keep kitten and older in seperate rooms. let them smell each other through closed door. after a while let them around each other but with supervision. since they are already together, just keep an eye on them both. i just dropped my youngest into the mix with the other two. after a week all was well. then my fiance brought his cat over and all hell broke out. his female is 10.5 yrs and my oldest male is 11.5 yrs- they HATE each other but have come to be ok in same house just not same area of the house. just some hissing and growling. they both are the alpha cats. that brings issues. only actually fought once. neither won but neither lost . i was torn up breaking that fight up. it's been 2 yrs and they just stay away from each other as much as possible. they did it on their own.
with the baby being so young, i don't believe you have to worry. your oldest will assert his alpha male role. it's a neccessity. YOU must pay attention to older cat-calm his mind about being castout or replaced. also seperate toys, beds, etc. your older cat will claim territory. good luck.

Most likely he will get over it! You will need to slowly introduce them. For the first day or so, keep the kitten in a room. This shows your older cat that it's still "his house" (cats are territorial). Then the next day let them have sniffs at the door. You can also put a blanket in with the new kitty for the first day, then give it to your cat. It will allow him/her to get familiar with the smell of the kitten. You can even play with a toy at the door. Never yell, hit, etc. Always stay calm and reassure both kitties they are doing a good job. You can give the kitties treats after any positive interaction. After a couple of days allow them to interact a bit. Get a squirt bottle in case they get to feisty. Only squirt them if one is hurting the other. I have introduced several fosters and it can happen even with older cats. It will take time. One thing I noticed is that the cats seem to feed of me, so I try to act calm and happy (not nervous). Don't allow them to be alone together until you are comfortable that they will be OK. Good luck and enjoy!

Did you take the stray to be check by a vet before you introduced the cats? Strays can carry diseases like FIV and FIP, which there are no known cures or reliable vaccines for and are transferred by bodily fluids through sex and fighting.
If so, then I would give your older cat some time and space to get used to the new kitten. Also call your vet. They often have some great tips on how to help kitties get aquainted.
Good Luck!

do a google search on introducing a new kitten into a household. They have great tips.
your older cat will most likely warm up in time. He is just setting boundaries for the youngster right now. It is however, very important that you do not leave them alone together.

This is typical cat behavior when introduced to another cat. Just make introductions gradually and give the older cat anywhere from weeks to months to adjust. Some become friends, others learn to barely tolerate each other. You never know which way it'll go.

Your other cat is probably very jelous right now. In time he will probably get used the the lil guy but for now try not to leave them alone together and make sure your older cat is still getting a lot of attention.

ya they will get over it soon. but at night i would put the kitten in the bath room with a litter box, food and toys. she will cry for a little while but it is the best way to keep her safe umtill the older cat likes her.
