Pray the rosary...ask Mary, the Blessed Mother, to intercede for you and to join you in prayer to Jesus. Ask that you are granted patience and the ability to trust in the Lord and place your confidence in him.
I use a book called the Pieta. There is a version of it online, here is a link to it: http://www.olrl.org/pray/pieta/
The Pieta may help you in meditating on various aspects of spirituality.
I also recommend that you take a look at Joyce Meyer's website: http://www.joycemeyer.org/ and read her books - she has really helped me grow in my spirituality by sharing her own life experiences and lessons she has learned. Here are some of her TV listings - http://www.joycemeyer.org/OurMinistries/Broadcast/TV/Archive/
Maybe a good video to start off with would be: Going Deeper In God - Part 1.
I hope I helped! And don't get discouraged if you feel you aren't instantly as close to God as you would like. It may take some time. But remember: Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6-7)
Jesus has already begun a work in you - this is proven by your desire to grow closer to Him. He won't forget you - the work will be carried out!

Elle, could you add some additional facts such as:
a. What religion are you?
b. What type of devotions are you doing now?
c. What do you think, if anything, is keeping you from feeling closer to God right now?
Pastor John
Addendum: Knowing that you are Catholic, I would make two recommendations to you. The Catholic Church has a program called "Cursilo". We Protestants call it Walk to Emmaus but it originated in the Catholic Church. It is a weekend experience (gender separated) aimed at spiritual growth for Catholics. I think you would find it a true blessing. Your priest should know to what I am referring.
Secondly, where is your nearest monastery. The monasteries always have a spiritual director who will work with planning retreats for Christians. The director could help you look at some solid Catholic methods of opening our heart to God. These methods of contemplation and such should also bring you a true spiritual blessing.
I hope this helps. God bless you on your journey.

I have that same problem a lot of times. What I do is I pray, I pray and tell God about everything I'm facing. I also read the Bible for understanding, and I highlight certain Bible verses. I also choose my favorite Bible verses and put them down on notecards, so that whenever I'm down or just need a little help with my life, I can review them in hopes of finding one that fits at that moment. Another thing you could do is talk to people about it, see how they're feeling and how they deal with it. It can be very rewarding to be able to talk to someone else with the same faith, they can answer your questions and share their experiences. Good luck!

You can connect/feel closer to God through prayer and reading your bible. I suggest getting a good devotional book to read. Also, be in fellowship with other believers. Find a good church and hang out with other believers at a bible study or youth group. If you have the oppertunity to go on a missions trip, I strongly recommend it! You grow closer to God while serving him. Your life will never be the same.

Super Atheist must have used his own method for drawing closer to God. He sounds like he speaks from experience. But, then, why hasn't it worked for him?
Pushing ignorance aside for a moment, prayer and time in the Word are the primary vehicles for drawing close to God. Drawing close to His people is important as well. It is the same as any other relationship. You will never develop intimacy without time together. That's about as non-mystical and practical as I can put it.

Gal. 5:6 from the Bible -- "What is important is faith expressing itself in love." We need to love God the Father with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength plus love Jesus and others. We need to be a conduit of love and God's other traits instead of just a vessel --- a pipe instead of a vase. This is about being selfless, holy, peaceful. Like a nun or monk. About being like God without our judgemental, selfish ways. Dropping self-will for self-control and self-discipline. The greatest trait is love.

In order to feel or connect more with God ,
you would have to find someone who is connected to God,
associate with him/her and learn from him/her how to fully connect with God.
how do you know if someone is connected ?
When someone knows who he really is, who God is
,what there relationship is, cant stop talking about God for a moment, and is madly in love with God, he is said to be
connected with God.
Have a sincere desire for loving God, and he will give
you the intelligence from within how realize this desire

you could find a quiet place in nature,
sit there, relax and feel the energies of your spirit and of nature fill you up. feel the music of the place, the sounds, the sights...
find the place in your heart that connects you to all this. and you'll be there.

Talk to Him through prayer. Bring all your troubles to Him and He will help you in His own way and His own time. Just keep your faith strong, no matter what comes your way.
