her whole family believes they have magic powers, one of her brothers thinks he can control the weather, its so bad that when ever its a nice day they thank him, they ask their house for power to help ward off evil spirits and same with their trailer, now im good for letting people believe what they want to, but this seems a little extreme, we've been going out for over a year now, and ive asked her to prove it to me that she can do magical things, but apparenly you can only see the powers if you have powers yourself, also they beleive that their witchy ancestors had St. Patric (yes as in St. Patrics day) and his mom as slaves and then he revolted against them and nearly killed them all, the problem is, is that it bothers me every time she brings it up and i told her how i feel and she just gets defensive and mad about it, and im not sure what to do.

To those who believe you shouldn't challenge peoples beliefs, i give you something to ponder. Religions (which are fundamentally made up of beliefs along with doctrine) have been directly responsible for countless atrocities around the world. Now i am not saying that her belief is worthy of being called an atrocity (except to logic) but if we choose not to question insane beliefs we end up with things like Jihads, Crusades, and so on. Beliefs are made to be questioned... take Roman and Greek pantheons they were annihilated due to judgement on belief. This girl needs a serious wake up call to reality along with her family.

Thats what she believes. I wouldn't challenge it, no matter how absurd it is. You wouldn't change your beliefs just because someone else said you were nuts, right? If you really love her, you can look past all that. But if it's too much of a bother, then I'd say leave her. But it's all up to you. The heart wants what the heart wants.

If her spiritual beliefs are going to get in the way of your relationship, there's no point in continuing it. Relationships that end like that can seem kind of disappointing, but it's better than hanging on and just driving each other insane.

I think the best thing you can go is ask them for concrete proof. If they can't fulfill your request to your satisfaction, then that will be your biggest clue as to what sort of people they really are.
