Does anyone feel that this is inappropriate for a 9 yr old girl?? I am very open minded, an artist, musician...but I have my niece staying with me and she is asking me to unblock this site for her...I looked at it and some of the clips on there...they seem a little too boy crazyish for a 9 yr old...or am I just a stick in the mud??

Myscene is oriented towards girls that age. I know of several girls that collect the dolls and are on that site frequently.
Those types of sites are harmless, but they do encourage girls to think in a cliquey (?) type of way. The girls I know that go there are like sheep.

Well, I wouldn't say you're a stick in the mud for being a protective parent...but that's how dolls are made nowadays. What you need to evaluate is how mature your daughter is. Nine years old is a young age and you're probably aware that young kids like to pretend they're older. There's a lot web pages dealing with makeup and other pretty things on myscene.com. (Just what little girls like.) Let your daughter go on the site....BUT if she starts to take the material Seriously, then block it.

If I were you, I'd listen to your gut instinct and keep the site blocked. There's a lot of stuff on there that's not appropriate for a 9 yr. old.
UPDATE: Y'know, I thought you meant MySpace. Myscene sounds cute and girly. Doesn't sound too dangerous but a couple of the outfits the girls wear aren't really that conservative.

There is no problem with that! I go on it all the time! It is fine! It has a lot of dress up games and style stuff! It is the barbie site just of the myscene dolls! It is completely safe for younger kids! I know a 4yr. old who goes on it! It is perfectly safe!

A nine year old doesn't need to be on the internet. IF you're an artist/musician get her interested in art and music rather than the computer.

Are you kdding? Don't listen to other people's advice especially if they do not have kids themselves. I have 3 daughters. 11,8,& 5. My younger two are ONLY on there for the games. Girls are suppose to like boys...isn't that what you want? If you are in doubt then maybe ask her parents what is allowed when she's on the computer.But that site is fun...I've been on there with my girls and played the games myself. Maybe both of you get on the site together and see exactly where she goes and what she's looking at.

My seven year old step-daughter has mostly all of the dolls, has all of the movies and accesorries and goes on the website. It is not too boy crazyish. And they are a whole lot better than Barbies. Barbie has broke up with Ken, dated Blane and then broke up with Blane and is now dating Ken.

I have netnanny running because I watch a 10 yr. old girl she is on this site a lot and netnanny has no problem with it. It is a VERY GIRL site with dress up games etc.
I don't see a problem with it, but trust your instincts

No it is way to boy crazy all dolls are getting like that like bratz. try to do something like making necklaces with beads to occupy her form the computer. if she complains its your house and your rules.
