You must be a Gordon fan... Every year since they started the chase, someone has had a good size lead and their fans cry about how they should get rid of the chase... Fact is, the chase gives alot of people a reason to watch NASCAR at this stage of the season, along with the end.

Last year it was Kennseth and Johnson fans, the year before that Stewart fans. Get over it, THE CHASE RULES!!!

All I'm saying is that if Gordon was in 12th right now ALOT of people would be singing a different tune about the Chase... Don't take everything so personally...

I agree 100 %. nothing was wronge with the old way. This is so rediculous I get pissed every time I hear the word chase no matter how it's used.
They are doing something like that in drag racing this year and most of the drivers there are pissed too.
I could see if year after year at the end they had to flip a coin to see who won or something like that but that never happen. I just don't understand.
The only thing the drivers ever said when they complained about the old points system was the winner of a race whould be rewared more than 5 points. Meaning at the end of a race the winner and second place guy under the old point system couold end up with the same amount of points.
This Chase crap has no meaning at all other than to discriminate the top 12 cars this year because Tony Stewart proved to them 10 didn't work last year. So all NASCAR could come up with instead of admitting the chase is a bunch of BS is they added 2 more spots. How lame is that.
The same dick most of came up with the top 35 too.
Have a star for a great queston not a bitching about TV coverage and actually a racing . Good job.

No brainer!! Of course!! Whatever happened to being the most consistent driver for 36 races and ripping the field of their dignity????? Now all you have to do is limp in and be a little lucky and do good for 10 races. Granted you still have to do good the first 26 but to have someone who doesn't even have 5 top 5's all year be within 40 points of the leader is just plain crap!!!!!

If Gordon is going to win, he's going to win, and if not I'm not going to "cry" about it. The chase is interesting, but I don't think it "determines" the nascar champion. It does give a lot of people a chance, but still c'mon. The way it always was, should have been the way it is today. Another tactic to draw in fans, guess it worked on you (shagster). I'll watch NASCAR no matter what, but don't assume you know why me or the guy asking the question doesn't like the chase. It's just my opinion don't be mad, I just liked the way it used to be. I didn't like the chase format the first year and I don't like it now. Maybe someday it will grow on me, but Gordon will be long gone by that time!

Ok Sally, my suggestion, give the points leader the lead he deserved all season. give him at least 100 points and 10 points for each win he had. Then only give the guys in positions 2-5 a chance at the chase so that the waters aren't muddied by some guy who doesn't deserve to be in the chase in the first place. The guys who are in positions 2-5 get 10 points for each win, but in no way shape or form should a guy with 3 top 5's and 7 top 10's be 40 points out of first place.

I'm a Gordon fan, if it was not for the chase he would have this year already just about won and he would have won a couple years ago also. With that said, I still agree with the chase. Its not perfect, there should be more than just 10 bonus points for each race you win and I believe you should have to win 2 races to be eligible for the chase, but no chase at all is much worse. Every sport has some type of playoff. I do not want to see a driver sitting on a lead the way Kenseth did.

Yes. Yeah Kenseth made the end of his championship season a little dull in terms of the points, but he dominated the season in terms of consistency and deserved it. I enjoy watching racing whether points are on the line or not. If someone has the points locked up early you would think that there would actually be better racing cause people are going for the win not points. Plus you don't have to be more carefull aroung the "Chase" drivers. I think they should get rid of the chase and give more points for wins. I enjoy watching NASCAR and would watch if no points were given, but I want to see people trying to win, not trying to stay in the top 12 (or 35, but that's a different question) in points.

I think its okay, but I do believe that it would be better if they went back to the top 10 cars making the chase. Expanding to twelve I feel diluted the "playoffs". Expanding it anymore and then it will be any average guy will be able to make the "playoffs". A couple of good thing that have come from it is that it has given more drivers a shot at the championship. So it is nice to see more drivers contending for it, rather then a handful. Also it has brought more attention to some races that are in the middle of the season that tend to get overlooked.

Considering that Gordon would DEFINITELY have won his 5th title this season, YES! lol...

Ok.. Truthfully, I do like the old points system better. To me, It crowned the "True Champion" of the season.. Not the most consistent driver over 10 races. The CHASE format is exciting, and has alot of hype that it definitely has lived up too... But I still don't believe it determines the "True Champion".

Yes.I do not agree with the way the points are done. The past few years the points leader has had a substantial lead only to have it stripped during the chase.Gordon has a decent lead now that he has earned.During the chase 1 or 2 bad weeks could cost him the title. And I'm no 24 fan.

I'm not sure but it would be nice to see everybody racing hard for the win, not just settling for a top 10. It seems to water down the racing when you have to think of big picture racing all the time.
