Hi, i have a 10 year old male pomeranian that i is not neutered. When ever he is around my mother's 10 year old female pomeranian who is spayed all he wants to do is sniff her. He does nothing else to her but sniff. Some people say he is trying to "mate" with her but he doesnt do this with any other dogs. He doesn't ride anything. Also after she left an area she was laying he would go over and sniff there area and something even pee there. Some times it does get bad to the point where he just wants to sniff her and she gets aggressive. But he just doesn't care. This past weekend when they were together all he did from friday - sunday night was bark at her. He didn't even sleep ( which left me 2 hours of sleep) he barked so much that his voice is hoarsed.I just don't know whats wrong. If all he wants is to "mate", but if theres something more wrong im getting worried. The female has alot of allergies and on some medications. He was with another female on sunday and ignored her. Any ieas

It sounds like he is feeling territorial. A female around him is (in the dog world) either an invader or mate. The peeing he does is scent marking. The fact that the female pom has allergies and smells of medicine might label her as 'sick' in his eyes and therefore, someone to dominate. Since he ignored the other female, he didn't have to 'prove ranking' with her because she is healthy.
Try first getting your mother's pom's scent on a rag or cloth and putting it in either your yard or an area of your house that has no carpetting. This article, if left around your dog long enough will accustom him to her scent. He might mark the cloth so you'll have to go and repeat the process until he stops trying to mark over the scent.

The 10 year old is showing dominance and being territorial by the peeing. All could be easily corrected if you had attended obedience classes and learned about dog behavior and how to teach and correct your dog. Then you would have a dog that obeyed the "leave it' and "quiet" commands. Wouldn't that be a more enjoyable pet for you? And what is up with having an intact dog of 10 years? Be a responsible dog owner and have the dog altered. If not for that then for the health of the dog.

He is displaying his dominance over her.
I have a male and female of different breeds, but whenever she goes to pee, he sniffs her spot, and pees over it.
he doesn't sniff her all the time, but whenever I show her attention, he sniffs her as if to say, I'm the alpha.
she may give off a different odor, due to her meds that he finds offensive...?
you will have to do some heavy duty training with him whenever he is around her to stop his barking. he is doing it, because you allow him to. when he starts, you need to take control, and stop him. this is done by stopping him before he starts. (do not whack him or spank him) simply distract by taking your index finger, and gently poke him in the side to distract him. follow up with "no". you need to be consistent and do this all the time. also, put a leash on him when she is around. when he starts, gently tug on it, to stop him. eventually, he will stop.
good luck.
watch cesar milan on the national geographic channel, he always has good tips.

It's because your pom was never 'fixed' ... and he 'remembers' when his 'girlfriend' wasn't fixed, and he's 'sniffing' to see if 'anything has changed' since the last time he saw her ... even if that 'last time' was less than two minutes before he 'takes another sniff' ...
I know that since both you and your mother own Pom's that you must 'truly love your Poms' ... but when the two dogs are 'together' you get 'worn out from your own Pom's behavior. The 'solution' is actually easy ... keep those two dogs APART ... even if it means putting one into a kennel while you and your mom are 'together' having your visit. It may seem 'cruel' but it's actually 'best' if you just keep the two dogs TOTALLY SEPARATE ... both for both dogs, and for their 'significant humans.'

Its just something you have to live with, he wants to mate to show his alpha dog status.

if he does mount and she is fixed there won't be any worries.

He is too old to fix, if he is healthy I wouldn't do anything but tolerate or remove him from the situation that upsets him.
