My car was vandelized and set on fire. I went through all the proper steps with my insurance provider and was told to I would be transfered to the total loss dept. They said mostly likely its unrepairable and would have a tow truck come get it within 48hrs. The car was not at my residence. Now while the car has been sitting waiting to be towed the rims and tires were stolen. i called back to tell them they said this would be a seperate claim with another 500$ deductible. WTF! Am i responsible? was i suppose to not go to work and baby sit the car ? or have it towed somewhere and its already being considered a total loss? Do we have any power with insurance companie or are we suppose to just be grateful for what/if anything they give us?

If the car was totaled, why does it need tires and wheels? Yes, it's a separate claim, the fire and the theft of the wheels are not related.

The car should not have been left at the scene. This can be construed as your negligence. I cannot imagine a fire causing total loss and leaving the tires and rims untouched.

Well, once the insurance declares it a total loss, it becomes their vehicle, so their rims and tires were stolen, not yours.

When they settle with you by giving you the market value of the vehicle, remind them it is market value adjusted by condition, and that you had after market tires and rims (if you did) that you need to be compensated for.
