When I was in kindergarten, during show-and-tell, I told everyone my mother had died. I went into detail as to having found her on the floor etc. I can remember my teacher asking me if maybe she wasn't asleep and I told her no, they took my mom away in an abulance. Well, my dad worked with a guy who had a son in my class. He heard from his son that my mother had passed on and came over the next afternoon to give dad his condolences. Think of his surprise when my mom answered the door. I guess according to mom, he had a very strange look on his face and asked to see my dad. Why would I ever make up a story like that???? What is the biggest lie you told as a child?

I remember telling my friends my parents were getting a divorce. I guess it seemed like the 'hip' thing in the 70's...they've been married 52 years and I can't recall them ever even fighting.

:-)

This is a great question. I remember being in 6th grade and was on the safety patrol. I accidentally forgot my safety belt and if forgotten 1 more time, I was going to be off the patrol. I broke into my house through a window to get my belt...then ran off to not miss the bus. I of course never shut the window and my parents thought someone broke into out house. I never fessed up to telling them it was me. ...even after they called the police to file a police report. Now that I think about it, I have never told them it was me...this was 23 years ago.

Kids do say the darnest things don't they. I remember lying to my Dad once. I told him I had fed the sheep when in fact I had not. I learned early (age 12) it was not good to lie. Not only did the animals suffer but me as well. It took years to repair the trust with my parents.

My dad was telling me about bees one time and how they have a queen bee. I was under the impression that my dad talked to the queen bee and that's how he knew so much about them. I went to pre-school the next day and told my teacher all about it. She proceeded to laugh at me and call in other teachers later that day so they could hear the story as well. I knew they were making fun of me. I got so mad and I screamed at them "my dad isn't a liar and that if he said it true, then it's true! You shouldn't laugh at me because you are too stupid to talk to bees!" They kept laughing.
I told my dad that afternoon how the teachers laughed at me and the whole story. When he explained that he hadn't talked to the bees, I asked him if he could just pretend if those teachers ever asked him about it. I was 4 years old.

My dad beat up a guy and we were required to tell lies about it to anyone that asked. He had a family lie that we all had to swear to. He had a lot of anger management issues and we were beaten badly as kids.
