my baby is only a week old. i recently switched him from formula to breastmilk and then back to formula exclusively. since the switch from breastmilk to formula my baby has been constipated. i know this is very common but how long will it be before my baby starts having regular bowel movements again?

It can take a couple of weeks to become "regular" again. Try Good Start. It is the easiest to digest for very young babies and is the most like breast milk.

DO NOT give a baby this young any fruit and especially not prune juice. The system is way too underdeveloped to handle this.

Babies can take up to 5 days to have a bowel movement sometimes. See your doctor if by day 5 he/she hasn't gone but don't start giving fruit this early. It could create a vicious cycle between diarrhea and constipation which neither of you need. There is a reason why fruits are to be introduced later in baby's development.

Yes it could take a week or more to regulate their bowels.
Please NEVER give your baby any fruit juice this young.
It's not necessary! Best of luck.

It shouldn't be longer than a week, I'd say - and if he hasn't pooped in three days see your doctor. I know he's really young, but you can give a TINY amount of pear or prune juice to get things going - just don't overdo it.
