I would think 6 months. Or maybe even a year.

I just took my kitten to the SPCA yesterday and the vets there said between 4 and 6 months is the perfect time to get them fixed.

Most vets will do a spay at 6 months. I would look for a SPCA in your area they will do a spay at 4 months. this sounds young but it is better for your cat in the long run. also a cat can go into its first heat at 4 months and can have kittens every 16 weeks after that.

When I had my male cats fixed they were each 6 months old. I'm not sure of the youngest age that could be done. Possibly 4 months. Seems a bit young. Maybe not for a female though. Not sure.

not before 6 months of age, around 8 months is a good time unless your cat goes into heat before this you will know from the constant howling etc and then if this starts you will have to consult the vet to when they can be done.

most vets wait until the cat is about 2 pounds. that makes the age different for every cat.
they have to wait until the cat is a certain wait because of the anesthetic they use on them
