There are several companies that provide internet fax services. You send the fax just like you send e mail and you receive the faxes as an e mail. If you want to send an image or hand drawn picture or similar, you scan it and then send the scan as an attachment. There is a fee for these services but it is a lot less costly than a separate phone line.

I have used MyFax for several years and like how it allows sending and receiving up to 200 faxes per month for $9.95, converts all incoming faxes into PDF, sends them to an email address I specify and allows me to track faxes online. Sending is easy as sending an email with a document attached to a special number as the recipient.
