I have Nia (a pit bull that I've had since she was born) and now I have a puppy that someone abandoned (he's also a pit bull). Nia is 1 year and 6 months and the puppy is about 6 months. Nia is being really mean and keeps wanting to fight with the other dog. I haven't raised her that way she's just really angry that we're keeping the dog. I want to evenually bred the two dogs but I need them to get along. The puppy loves Nia but she won't let him near her! HELP!

Ugh, here we go again with the breeding.
Why would you breed a dog with an unknown background?
For all you know, this abandoned puppy comes from a line of tenacious fighters and the whole litter would be aggressive? Just because a particular dog is sweet, does not mean the puppies will be. You have to take the whole line into consideration to get a predictable outcome.
Please reconsider breeding your dogs.
As for fighting, your older dog is fighting over territory and is establishing herself as the boss. You need to establish yourself as the boss and quickly. Anytime she goes to fight with the puppy, give a correction with a stern NO, and put yourself between her and the puppy.
If you see her ears going forward and her eyes are fixed, that is a sign she is going to fight, and that is the best time to give the correction.

Let me guess, Nia has never been trained, you have never attended any classes and do not have any understanding of dog behavior, right? So Nia does not understand that you are alpha and now is trying to establish alpha over the new dog. Very normal behavior. If you had attended a good obedience class with Nia before you received the new dog and she was reliable with commands then you would easily be able to correct this bad behavior. But not too late. Enroll in a good obedience class with Nia and learn about dog behavior and how to teach your dog. Forget about breeding the dogs. Have them spayed and neutered and leave the breeding to the experts and become a responsible dog owner.

Sadly, you don't have to teach a dog. You may have gotten your dog from an irresposible breeder who may have bred a fighting dog. It can be genetic. I had to go through extensive training with my Pit Bull as he was bred from a fighting dog. It takes a lot of time and energy, but in the end it is really worth it. I would probably buy her a muzzle and see how she is around him on a leash, but make sure the muzzle is tight enough that she cant bite him.

Whoever put me as a thumb down obviously knows nothing about Pit Bulls.

pit bulls dont normally warm up to a new dog because they are protective of the people they love. so your only solution is to get rid of one sadly. at least you know Nia is trying to keep you safe from harm

Your dog is just trying to show the new dog who is King of the Castle. You need to show your dog who is King of the Castle. I suggest going to a Qualified Obedience Trainer. You do not need to get rid of one of the dogs unless you decide that you would rather let one of them rule the roost.
