My dog is a girl yet she still mounts things. Especially my leg. Why is this and how can I stop it?

Even females will mount other dogs when they play as a show of dominance. It's a natural canine behavior that becomes annoying when she tries to mount a human, and even more so when you realize what it means. You stop it by giving a stern "No!" which she mounts you, moving her away and getting her to submit to you (having her lie down or roll over so you can rub her belly).

This has nothing to do with sex. The dog is showing dominance over you by humping your leg. You should not allow the dog to do this. You are the alpha right? I would brush the dog off your leg and give the command "leave it". Your dog does know that command? Your should enroll yourself and the dog in a good obedience class. They will teach you about dog behavior and how to teach your dog.

My puppy that passed away in December did that. It's just a phase. If she isn't fixed and you aren't planning on breeding her, get her fixed and the problem may be solved soon. If she's already fixed or you don't want her to be fixed just yet, buy a stuffed animal or give her one that you aren't partial to and give that to her when she starts mounting things or your leg, kind of like the 'put a toy in her mouth when she chews on your shoes' kind of thing.

Good luck. =]

Mounting is generally dominant behavior, and it can be play behavior as well. Also (which is strange) it's more common in females. Basically, I think she's trying to tell you that she's your boss.

You might want to train her and let her know that you're her leader.

She is being dominant. Just tell her sternly NO when she tries it and maybe eventually she'll stop. You have to show her that YOU are the boss- not HER..lol.

Your dog is letting you know she is in charge of you. You need to become her pack leader asap!!!

my parents female does that too. It's funny but my male has never tried. Try more discipline: say "NO!" when she does it and pull her off.
