People have been predicting the exact dates of the end of the world since right after Jesus was ressurected.

Lots of big-wigs in the early church were 100% sure that there was something magical about the 1,000 year mark. Lots of people were convinced that the end of the world would be in the year 1,000.

Didn't happen did it?

A quick google search would pull up lots of predictions for the end of the world through the ages.

Jesus said nobody would know when it would be.

And we probably won't know what it's going to be like either, if his birth is any indication. Just like his birth in a cow stall was too "lowly" for a lot of people to recognize, maybe his 2nd coming will be the same -- the very people who are so-called experts will totally miss it and the people they look down on will be there to recognize it.

Jehovah's Witnesses say that (or believe that rather). Their case is that Jesus returned to earth invisibly in the year 1912. He has been guiding the watchtower society ever since out of Brooklyn NY. Since the bible says that "this generation" will not taste of death before Christs return, they've somehow come up with 2012 (give or take a few years I guess) as the end of the world.

This question was just asked a day or so ago. "they" are the Myans and scientist and astronomers have found the calendar to be extremely accurate.

If the calendar weren't so accurate, then no one would be curious why it ends on the Winter Soltice of 2012. It ends at the point of an astrological event that would have been difficult to imagine much less pinpoint 5000 years ago.

So it depends on what you mean by the end of the world, but if you want to read an interesting article on what this date means....................
