Why or why not?? I have 3 peircings and 6 tatts. I get alot of bad looks when they show and it's funny, but when I cover them people tend to smile at me more and are friendlier. I was just wondering what the main concensus was on the subject. By the way none of my tatts and piercings are distastful in any way. Some are large, but they are classy pics not like a pic of the devil or a giant anti-christ sign or anything.

The only people that avoid me are the same sort of people I want to avoid, those that judge people on appearance alone.
In a way I think my tattoos and piercings make me more approachable, people come up and ask me questions about them, they're great conversation starters

I have 2 tatts and 5 peircings, I have 2 sons, I got to all the parent meetings I even bake cupcakes and decorate them all cute. My sons teachers loves me, I made a banner for their christmas parade, Do I sound unapproachable. Maybe the reason no one smiles is because you don't smile if you smile first they would most likely smile back. And besides who cares what others think I love tatts and piercings-despite what others say.

People have different opinions on everything. I'm a girl and I have a half sleeve..I get dirty looks and older people asking me why I do that to my body. But, I also get alotttttt of compliments on how nice it looks. My parents are only 40 and both have manyyy tattoos, along with my brother who is covered. We go on family vacations and people look at us like were weird or something. I guess it's just how people are brought up. My parents always told me to express myself however i wanted, and tattoos are a good way. All of mine have a meaning. Do whatever you want, you shouldnt care about what other people think!

Never judge a book by its cover .How can someone know if you're a bad person unless they know you and came to that conclusion, other than that its just stereotyping.Aren't you the same person when your tattoos are showing and when they aren't so who's truly the bad person or unapproachable? Them! Oh, did I forget to mention I'm a mom ,a wife ,a councillor, and a substitute teacher I have four piercings and four tattoos!!

I don't see why people are so judgemental about people with piercings and tattoos honestly if you think it its no different than racism, being predjudice against a certain group of people by the way they look. and honestly I like a girl who has piercings and tattoos, some of the hottest chicks on tv right now have lots of tattoos and piercings ( Kat von d, amy winehouse, etc.) But with guys its a little different, with tattoos might be intimidating, i guess. I have a couple tattoos, one of which (which has to be my favorite) is a memorial tattoo i got for my brother on my 19th birthday. Tattoos can be a very beautiful thing, shame on people who think that their something to be looked down upon, (same goes for piercings).

I have tattoos etc myself and know some amazingly lovely people covered from head to toe in tattoos and metal. I think the reason some people are uncomfortable in the presence of people who style themselves in this way because it is an old fashioned stereotype. 2 main types of people from history who were notorious for tattoos etc were often stereotyped as unapproachable. Army/sailors and punks in the 80's and 90's.
The latter of the 2 prided themdelves as coming across as anarchists. (not all ofcourse as I am refering to a common stereotype!)

it can be intimidating to some people. usually when I see someone with tattoos or a lot of peircings, i judge them like the first 3 seconds then im like "well maybe thats how they express themselves." i think guys who have tattoos are hot...but i think thats the 'bad boy' thing i kinda go for but i usually end up going for the preppy classy guys...gentlemen...NOT that the tattoos guys cant be gentlemen, a lot of them are extremely nice...you just have to look past the cover.

Only people with really extreme piercings and tatoos shock me visually. I think in that case that is what they are meant to do. Like when a person has facial and scalp tattoos or multiple piercings to the point of distrotion of the body.

No, I have no problems with people wit tattoos, piercings (though for some reason, I can't stand eyebrow piercings), or green hair for that matter. I don't like tattoos depicting hate or degradation, on principal I don't think I would have much in common with people that feel that hate and degradation are something to be proud of. In general, I really try to see a person for WHO they are, not what they choose to display on their bodies. It is their body, right?

Oh, and BTW, I AM one of those "old people" they are talking about.

Absolutely not! Most of the nicest people I know have body art, and I also know a lot of people who either have none or just have their ears done and are absolute pricks! People will judge, that's inevitable. It's better to just let them be disrespectful like that because in the end the only people they are disrespecting are themselves.
