Once Iraq lives up to their part of the bargain. The Iraqi government has already missed some of the deadlines to have security forces trained to takeover some areas that the US and Brits were wanting to turn over to their control, but they weren't ready. If the Iraqi government gets their sh!t together then the US can start to withdraw troops in a slow orderly manner that will not upset any balance of power.
So everyone, yell at the Iraqi government for not being ready when they were supposed too.

Nobody thinks Bush will withdraw from Iraq, either those that agree or disagree with him think that. I think it's very unlikely that Bush and Cheney will be impeached and removed from office (but that's another question). So that means we won't see withdrawal until at least 2009.
The question is: Will our new president withdraw the troops? All the Democratic candidates and some of the Republicans say they will, but I am old enough to remember another election based on another unpopular war. Nixon said he had a 'secret plan' to end the war, but once he got in office he found it to his own political advantage to keep the war going another four years, in fact increasing troop strength and widening the war from Vietnam to Laos and Cambodia.
The fact is that wars like this are much easier to get into than to get out of. Those of us who opposed the war from the start knew this going in.

I think troops may start coming home by Summer of 2008. I hope so anyway. But we will need some troops to stay in Iraq for quite a while, to help rebuild and keep things as stable as possible. The sooner the better, for sure.

Realistically? I see it around 2009, but will have some troops there for years to come. It is vitally important for the insurgents to understand that the new Iraqi government will not be left to swing in the wind.

When Iraq can take care of itself. If they have troops patrolling the streets and keeping law intact, then we can leave.
I don't think the US will leave before then unless civil unrest in the US forces the government to do so. Polls and public opinion won't make them budge.

whenever a democrat gets in office, so probably hilary or obama in late Jan/early Feb 2009. Bush is a monkey who is too dumb to know it and thinks God made him president.
