Yet they will give a person second chances or don't think twice about abandoning their children. What is that? Please explain.

I don't understand your point. I seriously doubt you will find anyone in this forum who will support Michael Vick and anyone who abuses animals or children.

If you think Americans abandon their children you are a nut. There are criminals everywhere and they are not limited to people in our country. As a very proud American I believe, as do most moral people that abusers of aminals and children should be prosecuted. PERIOD.

Now, as Goldengal previous stated, you may want to hitch a ride back on that troll bus.

First of all, torturing and killing dogs for fun is cruel and a sin no matter what country you're from. Western values/ethics/religion teaches that man has dominion over the animals of the earth, so we have a responsibility to treat them properly and not abuse them for our pleasure.

Second, who said that Americans don't think twice about abandoning their children? What does that mean? I've lived in the US almost my entire life and I've never met anybody who thinks that it's ok to abandon their children. It does happen here, but it also happens in every single other country on earth, and Americans adopt a lot of those abandoned children.

Finally, Michael Vick and his ilk are facing jail time, but only a few years and after that they will get second chances too.

With his connections, he probably won't do jail time. I think this entire situation is a testimony to how greedy and selfish Americans can be. I disagree with breeding dogs for money. If people didn't get money from breeding dogs and actually had to pay far more just to breed dogs than they ever could make selling the puppies these kinds of situations would be greatly reduced.
In this case, considering he is loaded anyway, still might have happened, but he is just the tip of a very large ice berg. You are hearing about Mike Vick because of his celebrity but not talked about are all the animals put to death everyday in the US just because people are selfish and want to breed dogs and have no guaranteed permanent homes for the puppies.
I've notice that a lot of people buy dogs on impulse not really understanding they have to keep it it's entire life, not just while it's a puppy.
Unscrupulous people will breed dogs knowing that people will buy the puppies soley on impulse and they can quickly rake in over a thousand dollars on one litter of a breed like Yorkshire Terriers.

I am not American and I believe you should go to jail wether you abuse a child or a dog. They are both living things that deserve respect. People deserve a second chance sometimes. But the footbal player did not abandon a child, he train dogs to attack. Would you like that dog around your children? Or on the street?? Hell I would not even want it around my dogs, that you seem to think they are so insignificant@!

I would advise against generalising about an entire nation, especially when your grammar leaves a lot to be desired and therefore makes your question ambiguous.

Your question is racist. Just because you haven't mentioned skin colour doesn't mean your question isn't offensive. Making sweeping statements about a race or nation is stupid. No country is perfect. Name one country where every single child is well taken care of.... no such thing!

Your question is nothing to do with dogs either. Actually, all it tells me is that you have a problem with America, for whatever reason, and would therefore do better to post the same question (but better phrased) under Politics or Philosophy or Ethics.

(And for the record, in case my spelling hasn't made it obvious, I am not American).

I don't understand the question. Considering that Paris Hilton just spent time in jail for DUI and Nicole Ritchie is going in hte slammer for the same thing, we American's like to put lots of people in jail. These people (I am assuming you mean Michael Vick and his trusty friends) may not be assigned time in jail at all, they may only have to pay a fine and be barred from owning dogs. Prison (a maximum of only five years for their atrocities) is only simply a possibility.

I'm not sure what you're talking about abandoning children but the world of the American Celebrity is a bizzare one indeed...I hope that one day celebrities can be treated the same as everyone else, for whatever they do. Everyone should be held responsible for their actions.

You are accusing Americans of abandoning children when Russia, China, almost all of Africa and many other countries have the highest amount of children in orphanages? Nice!!
Where do you live, high horse land?

Well said, Golden Gal!

sadly to say we do not give animals the same chances as we do humans.

BUT its mainly our own damn faults... too many people do not take a pet to take care of it forever... if we did the shelters wouldn't be full to over flowing and people would take the time and dedication to there dogs to train them and get them to the vet... instead they get rid of them.. the dogs have to be perfect or they are put down. its sad but true and very wrong.

Pets are for life!

Bad-mouthing people. No evidence to back up claims. Stereotyping. Ambiguous, nonsensical argument.

Yep. Just another ugly troll.
