Those of you who ask this question 18 times/day: exactly which section would you have a group of people that knows a great deal about religion GO?

No reason to exclude atheists from R&S.

For one thing, atheists are not necessarily aspiritual.
Secondly, they're clearly interested in R&S; atheism is certainly as valid a conclusion about the nature of spiritual reality as is theism.

Studying religions to understand them is something that anyone can do, and Y!A is one place where we can all do that.

It's also possible that the more a person studies religion, the more likely they are to become atheist, concluding that religions are cultural constructs that were developed by people to serve human needs, and do not necessarily imply the existence of one or more gods.

I really don't know why some people think that belonging to a religious organization is a requirement to know about or be curious about religion. It's a phenomenon that is a part of many people's lives - regardless of if they are religious or not. It's like just because I am not a biologist doesn't mean I can't visit the science section. We live in a diverse world, and we really should be thankful that there are multiple perspectives hear. I personally think the Atheists enrich the R&S section.

Revenge!: I'll tell you why you got the thumbs down (though I did not give you one). "I think there should be sub categories in the R&S section to help avoid conflict."

Why is conflict a negative thing? Most atheists are here to make Christians think. And vice versa. This is what this never ending conflict provides.

As for the actual question . . . we should be in the Cats section of course.

I think this is exactly where you belong. However those who use this section or for that matter any section to just post insults need to go away all together.

Either answer the question in a sane intelligent manner or skip it

Maybe because atheists do not believe in any sort of religion? I like to get other peoples view point and I don't care who comes on R&S as long as they show respect and maturity towards everyone.

The biology section. There, you can answer the "why are there monkeys" question, which pops up there 18 times a day. LOL. Be where you like.

Obviously, atheists should frequent whatever section they choose. However, I think the previous question was aimed at those who want to dismiss or disrespect someone's beliefs. An intelligent discussion is one thing, a blatant attack or mockery is another thing entirely regardless of the person's beliefs. A lot of Christians come to the R&S to learn about their religion or to discuss with others who are like minded. Maybe a separate section for different religions would be more appropriate for those people that way people could go directly to whatever religion that would like to discuss.

I don't believe in god, I'm a Buddhist (Buddha isn't a god), but I think I've got something to contribute to this section and lots to learn from it.

(Even though I can get on my high horse sometimes!)

Conflict? no, it's debate leading to a more refined understanding.

Good point Link.

I think that atheists should stay and feel welcome in the religion and spirituality section. As a Christian, it is good to hear other perspectives and to understand their beliefs better.Just because people do not subscribe to a religious belief does not mean they understand or lack spirituality.

I think you should stay here. I mean even though you don't believe in God, doesn't mean that you are not asking in reference to God...

The section doesn't state that you have to believe in religion and spirituality.... it just says you have to make questions regarding it.

i think you should stay... it really helps me think hard and long about some questions.
