Repent means change your way of thinking so....

Basically Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shall be saved.... now, 1John 1:9 whenever you sin in order to stay in fellowship but you only have to believe in Christ, admit your a sinner and that he died on the cross for those sins.

You are already forgiven at the cross, but you need to acknowledge that you need a savior and are a sinner ... for who needs a savior if they don't acknowledge they've sinned?

When Jesus was questioned about the people He was surrounding Himself with (tax-collectors, prostitutes), He told the people that He did not come for the righteous but for the unrighteous. A man who is well does not need a doctor. It is the man who is sick that needs help. This is the purpose of Jesus Ministry. If we repent of our sins, we are truly sorry, we ask the Lord to forgive us, and we ask this is the Name of Jesus. It WILL be given unto us. No matter how close we are to the Lord we fall short of His Glory every day. Each day either by word, thought or deed, we sin. And as silly as it sounds, God will forgive us. He knows that we are only human. He gave us a free will. If you have an unforgiven sin, or you are reaching or just seeking knowledge of the Lord, please have a talk with Him. Listen closely, He "always" answers. It might not be what you want to hear, but, He will answer. And He knows what is best for His children. There are many verses that speak on this subject of forgiveness. I am including one here f.y.i. Acts 10:41-43 God Bless You, Mary W.

After the adultreous woman asked for forgiveness, Jesus said, "Go and dont sin anymore." When he was beign crucified, the thief at his right acknowledged Jesus as the Son of God and repented. Jesus said that he would see Him in glory and sit by Him.
Does askign for forgiveness mean you will be saved? No.
You can ask for forgiveness over and over and over and keep on sinning. God will always forgive you, but no sinner that has not repented completely will enter Heaven, because there will be no sin there.
So, yes, repentance is the first step into salvation. But there's also a text that follows that "He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:16)

Easy, it's by far the most popluar too, John 3:16. " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

Faith and true repentance will erase any sin, don't doubt God's ability to save him.

1 John 1:8-10
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.
