With no help from America, and with Israel invading Iran?

2007-07-30 08:51:15 · update #1

That is to bad. Maybe different Arab nations would get together to help defend Iran from them.

Some very good answer toward the end. Thanks

Iran would, they would overwhelm them with sheer population and desire. The Americans have proven in two wars that technology doesn't win wars.

There are no winners in war, just dead!!!!!

Neither would win and neither could invade.

Neither country has the ability to launch an air mobile assault of the size required. The IAF is good but light on transport. The Iranian Air Force and the Air Components of the Revolutionary Guard do not have the transport nor the fighter escort capabilities.

A seaborne assault would have to go through the Suez Canal (Not allowed by treaty, Egypt would lose US Support if either did - ain't gonna happen).

Neither country has the logistics capability to launch an attack over 1600 km away. Even if they did, neither has the capability of holding the ground that they took.

For Iran to invade, the non-religious military would have to work with the religious Revolutionary Guard. - Isn't going to happen. Hard to see the Knesset developing a coalition government that would embrace a military adventurism. They will come together to defend yes, but attack - no. Not to mention the forces attacking Iran would not be available to defend against Syria/Lebanon/Hezbollah etc.

Politically, the attacking country would have to invade/pass through Iraq, and then Saudi/Jordan, Jordan, Syria, or Syria/Lebanon. That means Israel having to fight its entire way and Iran having to fight almost the entire way.

Whole thing can't happen. Logistically, tactically, operationally, and politically impossible.

The RN guy is wrong. Israel showed in 1982 how it can sustain a massive offensive into other countries on several different fronts.

Many people are not aware that the Israeli Air Force is superior even to the USAF in terms of fighter planes and trained pilots. Iran would first have to contend with this Air Force and overcome it to have any chance at all of mounting a sucessful invasion of Israel. That is just not possible with Iran's outdated equipment.

Iran would naturally have the advantage in manpower, but they would have to resort to suicide tactics to try and overwhelm the highly trained IDF. Could human waves stand a chance against advanced armor? It might have worked against Iraq, but not here.

Of course, when you consider major war today, one nation or the other needs the support of the world community with regard to emargoes, etc. Iran would be cut off from resupply by everyone, including Arab nations.

My prediction: Israel 33,230 dead 91,989 wounded. Iran: 193,675 dead 437,965 wounded.

Although Israel has one of the best military records in the modern world, a large part of their strategy is and always has been dependent on the U.S. rapidly and continuously providing enormous quantities of ammunition and equipment.

The IDF does not the personnel to match the size of an invader, nor does it have enough land to use withdrawal as a strategy, so it's driving principle is to throw up an incredible amount of firepower in a continuous stream to overwhelm the local resources of it's enemies. Technology allows rapid movement and shifting of resources to make up for a lack of manpower.

In the 1973 war, Israel brought the world to the brink of nuclear war when it threatened to nuke Syria. President Nixon, in an attempt to defuse the situation, halted all shipments of arms to Israel for 24 hours. Just one day without those supplies nearly cost Israel the war, and they had to back down on their nuclear stance. As soon as Nixon resumed the flow of supplies, the IDF went on the offensive and pulled out a stunning victory over Egypt, which lead to the end of the fighting.

So without immediate and massive resupply from the U.S., the IDF could not sustain an offensive operation. The IDF could, and has on several occasions, still mount a quick and effective series or air strikes to reduce specific targets, to which Iran would have little or no answer. In this respect, Israel would be the "winner," but this would hardly be called a war...

" To help Iran defend itself?"

Sorry, but which planet are you living on???

Iran is the one issuing all the threats - their leader has vowed to 'wipe Israel off the map' countless times. Anyone who has seen and heard his racist ravings against the Jewish state will recognise that Iran is the threat here. That's why the free world does not want Iran to get hold of nuclear weapons.

Israel has tried only to negotiate peace with the Arab world. Thankfully, it's worked with Jordan and Egypt.

Israel would never attack Iran first. The only situation in which this might happen is if there was credible evidence that Iran was preparing a nuclear attack, in which case of course Israel would be justified in a pre-emptive strike.

You should note that Israel is tiny; she's smaller than Wales and smaller than the state of New Jersey. Her Arab neighbours are wealthy and far, far larger.

And it's Iran that you feel needs protection?

Come on mate, get real.

It cannot happen.

Have you looked at a map ?

For Israel to invade Iran,

They would have to cross both Jordan and Iraq.

At the closest point, it is 700 miles from Israel to Iran.

It is 1,000 miles from Israel to Tehran.

Neither Israel or Iran have the ability to invade each other.

Either by land or sea.

First, if by "no help from America" does that mean we withdraw our $8 billion of aid that we give Israel?

Second, you would have to define what the meaning of "win" would be. No one can evaluate this unless they know what the objectives of such a war would be.

Third, it is meaningless to make such an evaluation minus Israel's nuclear potential. If the goal of Iran was to annihilate Israel, then of course Israel would use its nukes and to try to guess what would happen if they didn't would be useless.

Israel would win because of worldwide rallying from Jews around the world. The IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) is one of the most advancded and strongest armies in the world. Israeli fighter pilots would make Tehran a crater before Iran could even dream of launching a bomb at Tel Aviv.

Israel has THE dominant military in the Middle East. Those guys have been fighting to defend their country since it started in the late '40s (1949 I think) and they have been winning ever since. They would decimate Irans weak military force.

Israel of course. Israel kicked the crap out of the Arabs in 5 different wars and they can do the same to Iran. It would be no sweat.
