I have dental insurance through work. They cover only 60% of the surgery and nothing for consultations. I have 4 wisdom teeth, 3 impacted and 1 is coming through. Is there anything I can do to save more money? Can I call around to different surgeons and ask pricing? Is the gas better or worse than being put under?

Hi! Ideally you should be put under and have an Oral Surgeon take out your wisdom teeth. Consultations are often consider part of the cost if you select that Surgeon for the procedure. Ask. The best thing is a payment plan. If you go to a dental clinic or teaching hospital you are getting a student doing a residency. While they are all good doctors, this is time consuming and you will have to wait while the attending supervising doctor is available. This is an option and they will take you insurance and not much more. Call the local hospitals and see if they have a dental clinic and if you can schedule an appt for a consult. I really think with the risks at hand in any surgery, you are better off going to a good Oral Surgeon that has a lot of experience and work out a payment plan. That is what I would do. This is not as simple as it sounds and there are problems that can happen with mandibular nerve damage and possible paralysis. Please consider this option for your long term safety and over all dental health. If you have any other questions, please ask. Marie

Gas will make you fly, or you think you are.

Sorry, no cheap dentistry that I know of.
