We wanted to put one in the living room, but we now feel that the ceiling and/or wall will never be the same. Please advise.

A ceiling fan in your dining room is not a dump idea!!! you can put a ceiling fan in any room in your house i think is a good idea because as the family gother to eat its get pretty hot and childrens and adult get hotter as more people and family menbers arrives.

What we've noticed is that we never run the ceiling fan in our dining room because it cools the food so quickly. From our experience, I'd say it's wasted money and effort unless you just love the tropical look or live in an extremely warm climate.

Most people like a nice chandelier or other light fixture in the dining room rather than a fan. In my last house we had ceilings fans in the great rooms and all the bedrooms but I got tired to trying to keep them clean so in my new house I opted to put none in. It's up to you if you want one in your living room. It can't really ruin anything. After all if you don't like it, you would be wired for a nice lighting fixture in its place there as well.
