I'm a full-grown guy. I drive a golf ball about 185 yards on the carry. Any par-4 over 400 yards I can't reach in regulation. My lack of power goes clear down to my wedge. I think I've tried everything to increase distance (custom clubs, grip changes, swing plane changes, mental imagery) nothing has worked, or even made much difference. Is there anything on God's green Earth I have missed that I could try?

I should have mentioned that I took a number of lessons specifically about hitting for greater distance, which initiated much of the tinkering I spoke of. The question is asked here as a last-ditch attempt.

For some reason there is a thinking amongst us humans that we all have a similar level of natural abilities. We do not, of course. The speed one swings a golf club is largely up to a person's own physical limitations. I was able to drive a ball about 270 yards the first time I held a driver, and I'm no physical specimen by any means LOL. My only trouble was that I didn't hit the ball cleanly and had a lot of mishits which I suppose is normal for a beginner. But on normal solid contact I was mid 270s. My guess is that there isn't much that you can do to hit a ball much farther than you are now. You've gone to teaching pros and they've probably thrown just about everything at you. You might find something that can give you a yard or two but that's about it. Wish I could be more optimistic.

I know that this might be a stupid answer...but have you tried a different type of golf ball? Like a low compression ball? Such as the Precept Lady, or Laddie? I'm NOT a long hitter, and do notice that I'm about at least 5-10 yards longer with all my clubs...simply by switching golf balls.

It sounds like you've done everything...don't let a lack of distance discourage you from this great game. I truly believe that the longer you play the better you'll get...yes even in distance. Find what works for you. I hope this helps, and good luck with your game!

Its all in the coiling of the shoulders and a slight coiling of the hips for where the power is generated.

If you are a righty, your right foot needs to be perpendicular to the target line in order to have a tight coil. If its flaired out to the right, you'll not experience the tension that is built up in the shoulder turn.

The arms should possess no tension built up.
Then from the top of the backswing, you turn the hips slightly back uncoiling them to the left. This starts everything else in conjunction; your shoulders will then follow. If you have relaxed grip, arms, etc.. the club will just drop back into the "slot" and into the correct inside swing plane.

Power is generated from a proper swing fundamentals; not from "hitting" at the ball.

I can help you!! Or at least tell you what to do. Core Training. By that I mean, work out your core. Abs, back shoulders, lats, any muscle on your upper torso. A lot of the power in golf is generated in the turning of your hips, which requires strong abs. Having solid shoulders and back muscles will only help you keep the club steady and you twist. Also work on you flexability. The more you can turn and the more you can stretch will also help you create distance. Work out hard and try to keep your swing consistent. I bet you'll see your distance improve.

Maybe you could get lessons at a local public course or even a community college class. They may be able to work something in your stance or your swwing in order to get better results. Also you might want to consider what balls your playing with. Maybe weightlifting can help. Then you are helping two things body and golf game.

my husband took 2nd place in the last long drive contest at 348 yds
he always tells me to get my hands as far away from my body as possible
torc between the hips and the upper body is where speed is generated
maintain the lag in your wrists as long as possible he feels like it does not release until the ball is already gone

one of the main things that separates the long from the short hitters is the arc of the club on the downswing.......the longer you keep the arc towards the release of the club through your wrist the farther it will go...but control then comes an issue....that being said that is just one of many.....hard to dissect a swing on the internet...............

Without seeing your swing, it's difficult to help you out. As Jason P. suggest, I think lessons would be your next step.
