between the two JBL has a better performance to price ratio than Bose hands down. If Bose was 10% of what they ask for I would then say they were a good value, not before.
I think you need to listen to several makes of speaker to get a real feel for them, with the same equipment you would use, including the source material.

It depends - there are cheap and crappy Bose models and there are cheap and crappy JBL models. As a rule JBL is more of a commercial product while Bose is more consumer oriented. There are some extremely high-end JBL systems that are used in clubs, convert venues and theaters that can't be touched by a Bose system. It depends on the use and your budget - you will find adequate but not great models of both in the lower to mid price range. If I had to choose a full range speaker in the sub $1000 range I'd pick something else - neither Bose nor JBL is great. JBL makes great touring and club-series subwoofers that I have seen used in many homes so I wouldn't hesitate for a second to get a good JBL sub.

Bose is nothing but hyped up garbage. Have you ever listened to them? If you understand anything about acoustics and/or electronics, you'd be able to see through their "science". JBL hasn't made anything great since the '70s, but they are at least reliable. If I had to choose between the two, I'd rather have any model of JBL, which I would immediately re-wire with a better crossover (1st order slope). It is MUCH easier than you think. try the sites below.
P.S. listen to some Meadowlark, VonSchweikert, Avalon or other hi-end speaker if you can. Although they're unaffordable, you'll know what to look for in a lower end sound.

Most audio-video magazines never even bother to audition Bose- hmmm, should tell you something right there huh? I'd stick to the JBL Studio Series - very impressive reviews. There is a gentleman on Ebay selling them ( brand new ) for a great price! But in the end it all really comes down to one thing....YOUR EARS !! Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is sound. Audition, audition, audition! You may find another line of speakers that you were not even thinking of! Trust your ears not your peers!!

Bose has been proven to be the leader several times by Consumer Reports. Bose Sound labs in Texas are constantly doing research to improve quality and better dynamics.
I am a Bose owner and have always had GREAT sound from my speakers.
