It is considerable dangerous to swim while drunk.
First you have lowered your body temperature with the use of alcohol. That warm feeling you get is caused by a dilation of your blood vessels close to the skin. When this happens heat from your body (in part) from the energy produced from the metabolizing of ethanol (alcohol C2 H6O) passing through the skin.
Secondly physical and mental abilities are diminished. I know you feel strong I do too, but we are actually weaker.
Third oxygen supply to the brain and heart (blood circulatory system) has been reduced. This means we have less ability of mental alertness and physical strength as oxygen is required for both. The oxygen is rapidly being depleted by our body to oxidize the poison-ethanol.
All these things conspire to work against your safety.
**Do it for me and people like me that have chosen to make alcohol for a living and never wish to think it was in anyway responsible for a death, especially a young one.
Finally it is just a risky idea and too many people care about you for you to take such a selfish risk. Please be safe and don't drink & swim (DnS).
Be safe and enjoy.

Approximately as dangerous as trying to drive a car or fly a plane while drunk. The only difference is that if you die while swimming your unlikely to take others with you.

I wouldn't recommend it. It happens fairly often that people who are drunk and in the water can't really tell which way is up. And I'm sure I don't have to explain how this could lead to some fairly bad situations you don't want to find yourself in. Tipsy is doable, but as soon as you start to feel a little disoriented I'd avoid anything bigger than a puddle on the side of the road.

Depends how comfortable you are in the water, when I'm hammed I can still swim like a champ, and if I get tired I can easily tread water on my back so its perfectly safe for me anyways.

Yah I'd have to say probably.
When you're drunk... well I don't know what exactly what happens in your brain but you are less coordinated than you are normally. Swimming requires coordination... O.O not a good idea.

Could be dangerous if there's an undertow or your feet can't touch the bottom. Otherwise it's fun. :) I've done it before but only in a shallow pool.
